  1. A New Kind of Europe?: Democratic Integration in the European Union.James Tully - 2007 - Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy 10 (1):71-86.
The most urgent problem facing the European Union is to develop the best approach to conflicts over integration in the fields of culture, economics and foreign policy. The essay argues that a particular form of democratic integration is better than the two predominant approaches. This approach draws on the actual practices of the democratic negotiation of integration that citizens engage in on a daily basis but which tend to be overlooked and overridden in the dominant approaches.

  • Federative global democracy.Eric Cavallero - 2009 - Metaphilosophy 40 (1):42-64.
Abstract: In this essay a set of principles is defended that yields a determinate allocation of sovereign competences across a global system of territorially nested jurisdictions. All local sovereign competences are constrained by a universal, justiciable human rights regime that also incorporates a conception of cross-border distributive justice and regulates the competence to control immigration for a given territory. Subject to human rights constraints, sovereign competences are allocated according to a conception of global democracy. The proposed allocation scheme can accommodate (...)

  • Walter Benjamin and the Re-Imageination of International Law.Matthew Nicholson - 2016 - Law and Critique 27 (1):103-129.
Drawing on the work of Walter Benjamin, Harold Bloom, and Theodor Adorno this article proposes the re-imageination of international law as a ‘pure means’ of representation rather than a means of exercising control over the world.

  • Dreams and Nightmares of Liberal International Law: Capitalist Accumulation, Natural Rights and State Hegemony.Tarik Kochi - 2017 - Law and Critique 28 (1):23-41.
This article develops a line of theorising the relationship between peace, war and commerce and does so via conceptualising global juridical relations as a site of contestation over questions of economic and social justice. By sketching aspects of a historical interaction between capitalist accumulation, natural rights and state hegemony, the article offers a critical account of the limits of liberal international law, and attempts to recover some ground for thinking about the emancipatory potential of international law more generally.
