  1. Prometheus and the Pentateuch: Feuerbach, Marx and the Genesis of Secular Anti-Semitism.Miriam Leonard - 2010 - Thesis Eleven 102 (1):57-75.
This article explores the role of the antithesis between Athens and Jerusalem in the work of Karl Marx. Starting from an exploration of Ludwig Feuerbach’s Essence of Christianity, the essay attempts to situate Marx’s ‘On the Jewish Question’ within a longer history of philosophical writings about Judaism. It argues that, like previous writers, Marx depicts the Hellenic world as an implicit Other to Jewish modernity. Marx’s writings about Greece are heir both to the tradition of German philhellenism reaching back to (...)

  • ‘Last of the Schoolmen’: The Young Marx, Latin Culture, and the Doctoral Dissertation.Charles Barbour - 2022 - The European Legacy 28 (1):44-64.
This article examines Marx’s earliest writings, especially his doctoral dissertation on “The Difference Between the Democritean and Epicurean Philosophy of Nature” and the notebooks he kept while preparing it. Previous commentators on this material have tended to take one of two approaches: either they have used it to associate Marx with an expansive and abstract Western Tradition of philosophical inquiry, or they have located it in the narrow context of the intellectual culture of the German Vormärz. Here I seek to (...)

  • Aristotle’s Difficult Relationship With Modern Economic Theory.Spencer J. Pack - 2008 - Foundations of Science 13 (3-4):265-280.
This paper reviews Aristotle’s problematic relationship with modern economic theory. It argues that in terms of value and income distribution theory, Aristotle should probably be seen as a precursor to neither classical nor neoclassical economic thought. Indeed, there are strong arguments to be made that Aristotle’s views are completely at odds with all modern economic theory, since, among other things, he was not necessarily concerned with flexible market prices, opposed the use of money to acquire more money, and did not (...)

  • Geriausia politinė santvarka klestinčiam gyvenimui: Aristotelio politinė teorija ir jos reikšmė emancipacinei politikai.Andrius Bielskis - 2023 - Problemos 104:86-103.

  • Le Capital Amoureux : Imaginary Wealth and Revolution in Jean Genet’s Prisoner of Love.Duy Lap Nguyen - 2010 - Historical Materialism 18 (4):64-84.
This paper explores the relationship between revolution and corruption in Jean Genet’s accounts of the Palestinian movement in his final work, Prisoner of Love. For Genet, corruption does not simply expose the actions of a revolutionary subject as an empty impersonation, performed for the actual ends of acquiring personal power and fortune. Rather, it exposes the ‘pretension’ inherent in the revolution it undermines as well as in the accumulation of value. For Genet, the misappropriation of money by the Palestinian leadership (...)
