    This essay accomplishes two goals. First, I explore Husserl’s study of “tension” from his 1893 manuscript, “Notes Towards a Theory of Attention and Interest,” to reveal that it comprises his de facto first analysis of instinct. Husserl there describes tension as the innate pull to execute ever new objectifications. He clarifies this pull of objectification by contrasting it to affective and volitional experiences.     Huserliška instinktų samprata transformavo intencionalumo sampratą, papildė sąmonės teleologijos koncepciją ir naujai nušvietė iracionalumo ir racionalumo santykio problemą. Šiame straipsnyje Husserlio instinktų fenomenologija analizuojama per sedimentacijos koncepcijos prizmę. Aš teigiu, kad instinktus galima suprasti kaip sedimentaciją, kaip sąmoningumo virsmo nesąmoningumu ir nesąmoningumo transformavimo į sąmoningumą modelį. Instinktų kaip sedimentacijos samprata padeda suprasti, kaip iš kartos į kartą yra išsaugomi ir perduodami įgūdžiai, kaip mūsų sąmoningoje patirtyje veikia nesąmoningi instinktai.

    This paper explores Husserl’s late manuscripts in order to sketch a phenomenological description of drives and the dimension of passive constitution that belongs to them. Although this topic touches upon psychological issues, it will be shown that a specifically phenomenological approach allows us to recognize the transcendental significance of instincts.     This article raises the question of whether there is one consistent theory of volitional acts in Husserl’s writings. The question arises because Husserl approaches volitional consciousness in his static and his genetic phenomenology rather differently. Static phenomenology understands acts of willing as complex, higher-order phenomena that are founded in both intellectual and emotional acts; while genetic phenomenology describes them as passively motivated phenomena that are implicitly predelineated in feelings, instincts, and drives, which always already include a characteristic element of striving.
