Abstract

As climate change accelerates, the survival of countless species increasingly depends on their ability to shift to new, climatically suitable habitats. Yet, a recent synthesis by Bradley et al. (2024) reveals a striking disparity between native and non-native species in this race against a warming world. Native species, confined to their historical ranges and relying solely on gradual, natural dispersal, are falling behind. In contrast, nonnative species—often introduced beyond their natural range through human activities—are rapidly expanding.
