  • Hipparchia's Choice: An Essay Concerning Women, Philosophy, etc.Michele Le Doeuff - 2007 - Columbia University Press.
"To be a philosopher and to be a feminist are one and the same thing. A feminist is a woman who does not allow anyone to think in her place."-from _Hipparchia's Choice_ A work of rare insight and irreverence, _Hipparchia's Choice_ boldly recasts the history of philosophy from the pre-Socratics to the post-Derrideans as one of masculine texts and male problems. The position of women, therefore, is less the result of a hypothetical "femininity" and more the fault of exclusion by (...)

  • Metaphors of Knowledge: Language and Thought in Mauthner's Critique.Elizabeth Bredeck - 1992
This study considers Mauthner's views on language and thought as "metaphorical," then traces the consequences of those views in his discussion of language origin, history, and the problems of distinguishing between both individual disciplines and types of disciplines. To account for these discrepancies rather than simply identify them, she looks at both what Mauthner says and how he says it. (...)

  • Mauthner’s Critique of Language.Gershon Weiler - 1970 - Cambridge [Eng.]: Cambridge University Press.
A critical examination of the philosophical theories of Fritz Mauthner. Mauthner was a prolific writer with diverse intellectual interests, but he was preoccupied with developing a comprehensive philosophy or 'critique' of language which would help resolve a whole range of persistent and controversial philosophical problems. In pursuit of this aim Mauthner pioneered a view of language which has had a very wide circulation in the twentieth century - namely that the analysis and understanding of language, particularly ordinary language, is the (...)
