  • (1 other version)A Routley-Meyer type semantics for relevant logics including B r plus the disjunctive syllogism.Gemma Robles & José M. Méndez - 2010 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 39 (2):139-158.
Routley-Meyer type ternary relational semantics are defined for relevant logics including Routley and Meyer’s basic logic B plus the reductio rule and the disjunctive syllogism. Standard relevant logics such as E and R (plus γ ) and Ackermann’s logics of ‘strenge Implikation’ Π and Π ′ are among the logics considered.

  • An Introduction to Substructural Logics.Greg Restall - 1999 - New York: Routledge.
This book introduces an important group of logics that have come to be known under the umbrella term 'susbstructural'. Substructural logics have independently led to significant developments in philosophy, computing and linguistics. _An Introduction to Substrucural Logics_ is the first book to systematically survey the new results and the significant impact that this class of logics has had on a wide range of fields. The following topics are covered: * Proof Theory * Propositional Structures * Frames * Decidability * Coda Both (...)

  • Priestley duality, a Sahlqvist theorem and a Goldblatt-Thomason theorem for positive modal logic.S. Celani & R. Jansana - 1999 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 7 (6):683-715.
In [12] the study of Positive Modal Logic is initiated using standard Kripke semantics and the positive modal algebras are introduced. The minimum system of Positive Modal Logic is the -fragment of the local consequence relation defined by the class of all Kripke models. It can be axiomatized by a sequent calculus and extensions of it can be obtained by adding sequents as new axioms. In [6] a new semantics for PML is proposed to overcome some frame incompleteness problems discussed (...)

  • A Generalization of the Routley-Meyer Semantic Framework.Morgan Thomas - 2015 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 44 (4):411-427.
We develop an axiomatic theory of “generalized Routley-Meyer logics.” These are first-order logics which are can be characterized by model theories in a certain generalization of Routley-Meyer semantics. We show that all GRM logics are subclassical, have recursively enumerable consequence relations, satisfy the compactness theorem, and satisfy the standard structural rules and conjunction and disjunction introduction/elimination rules. We also show that the GRM logics include classical logic, intuitionistic logic, LP/K3/FDE, and the relevant logics.

  • A Sahlqvist theorem for substructural logic.Tomoyuki Suzuki - 2013 - Review of Symbolic Logic 6 (2):229-253.
In this paper, we establish the first-order definability of sequents with consistent variable occurrence on bi-approximation semantics by means of the Sahlqvist–van Benthem algorithm. Then together with the canonicity results in Suzuki (2011), this allows us to establish a Sahlqvist theorem for substructural logic. Our result is not limited to substructural logic but is also easily applicable to other lattice-based logics.

One of the most dominant approaches to semantics for relevant (and many paraconsistent) logics is the Routley-Meyer semantics involving a ternary relation on points. To some (many?), this ternary relation has seemed like a technical trick devoid of an intuitively appealing philosophical story that connects it up with conditionality in general. In this paper, we respond to this worry by providing three different philosophical accounts of the ternary relation that correspond to three conceptions of conditionality. We close by briefly discussing (...)

Modern modal logic originated as a branch of philosophical logic in which the concepts of necessity and possibility were investigated by means of a pair of dual operators that are added to a propositional or first-order language. The field owes much of its flavor and success to the introduction in the 1950s of the “possible-worlds” semantics in which the modal operators are interpreted via some “accessibility relation” connecting possible worlds. In subsequent years, modal logic has received attention as an attractive (...)

  • A Sahlqvist theorem for relevant modal logics.Takahiro Seki - 2003 - Studia Logica 73 (3):383-411.
Kripke-completeness of every classical modal logic with Sahlqvist formulas is one of the basic general results on completeness of classical modal logics. This paper shows a Sahlqvist theorem for modal logic over the relevant logic Bin terms of Routley- Meyer semantics. It is shown that usual Sahlqvist theorem for classical modal logics can be obtained as a special case of our theorem.

  • First-order definability in modal logic.R. I. Goldblatt - 1975 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 40 (1):35-40.
It is shown that a formula of modal propositional logic has precisely the same models as a sentence of the first-order language of a single dyadic predicate iff its class of models is closed under ultraproducts. as a corollary, any modal formula definable by a set of first-order conditions is always definable by a single such condition. these results are then used to show that the formula (lmp 'validates' mlp) is not first-order definable.

A typical approach to semantics for relevance (and other) logics: specify a class of algebraic structures and take amodelto be one of these structures, α, together with some function or relation which associates with every formulaAa subset ofα. (This is the approach of, among others, Urquhart, Routley and Meyer and Fine.) In some cases there are restrictions on the class of subsets of α with which a formula can be associated: for example, in the semantics of Routley and Meyer [1973], (...)
