    The computational view of mind rests on certain intuitions regarding the fundamental similarity between computation and cognition.     A set of hypotheses is formulated for a connectionist approach to cognitive modeling. These hypotheses are shown to be incompatible with the hypotheses underlying traditional cognitive models.     This paper offers both a theoretical and an experimental perspective on the relationship between connectionist and Classical (symbol-processing) models.
