  1. “Don't you think it is very exiting?” – Ein Beitrag zur Untersuchung des Hintergrunds der Entstehung des rotierenden Gödel-Universums.Tobias Jung - 2006 - Berichte Zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte 29 (4):325-340.
In 1949, Gödel published a paper on a new type of relativistic world models, namely the rotating Gödel universes. One remarkable feature of such models is the existence of closed time-like curves which means that they admit travelling in time. The question which I want to address is by which source Gödel might have been inspired when assuming a rotating universe. Although it is unlikely that he was influenced by predecessors like Anaxagoras, Descartes, Kant or Lambert or by the undoubtedly (...)

  • Preface to the First Edition of the Critics of Pure Reason.Immanuel Kant - 2022 - Філософія Освіти 28 (1):222-230.
New Ukrainian translation of the Preface to the famous Immanuel Kant`s Critique of Pure Reason. Translator Yurii Fedorchenko emphasizes the correctness of the translation of certain propositions of the original text, as well as the adequacy of the reader’s understanding and, accordingly, the need for a correct translation of certain terms of Kant’s philosophy, such as “Vermögen”, “Gebrauch”, “Anwendung”, “Ausführlichkeit”, “ Ziel”, “Zweck”, etc. This translation is accompanied by an analytical article by the translator, which is posted above in the (...)

Tobias Jung - 2006 - Philosophia Naturalis 43 (2):289-312.
Einstein's special and general theory of relativity abolished the Newtonian concept of absolute time. Moreover, Einsteinian physics revealed the mutual interdependence of space, time, and matter. Applying general relativity to cosmology leads again to the existence of a preferred time coordinate among the homogeneous and isotropic cosmological models. Einstein referred to this time coordinate as ,,almost absolute time." What is the exact relation between absolute time in relativistic cosmology and absolute time in Newtonian physics? To answer this question firstly we (...)

  • Privileged, Typical, or not even that? – Our Place in the World According to the Copernican and the Cosmological Principles.Claus Beisbart & Tobias Jung - 2006 - Journal for General Philosophy of Science / Zeitschrift für Allgemeine Wissenschaftstheorie 37 (2):225-256.
If we are to constrain our place in the world, two principles are often appealed to in science. According to the Copernican Principle, we do not occupy a privileged position within the Universe. The Cosmological Principle, on the other hand, says that our observations would roughly be the same, if we were located at any other place in the Universe. In our paper we analyze these principles from a logical and philosophical point of view. We show how they are related, (...)
