  1. A systematic review of instruments measuring patients′ perceptions of patient‐centred nursing care.Stefan Köberich & Erik Farin - 2015 - Nursing Inquiry 22 (2):106-120.
    This systematic review identified and evaluated instruments measuring patients' perceptions of patient‐centred nursing care. Of 2629 studies reviewed, 12 were eligible for inclusion. Four instruments were reported: The Individualized Care Scale, the Client‐Centred Care Questionnaire, the Oncology patients' Perceptions of the Quality of Nursing Care Scale and the Smoliner scale. These instruments cover themes addressing patient participation and the clinician–patient relationship.   • Re‐reading nursing and re‐writing practice: towards an empirically based reformulation of the nursing mandate.Davina Allen - 2004 - Nursing Inquiry 11 (4):271-283.
    This article examines field studies of nursing work published in the English language between 1993 and 2003 as the first step towards an empirically based reformulation of the nursing mandate. A decade of ethnographic research reveals that, contrary to contemporary theories which promote an image of nursing work centred on individualised unmediated caring relationships, in real‐life practice the core nursing contribution is that of the healthcare mediator.   • Professional Talk: How Middle Managers Frame Care Workers as Professionals.Lieke Oldenhof, Annemiek Stoopendaal & Kim Putters - 2016 - Health Care Analysis 24 (1):47-70.
    This paper examines how middle managers in the long term care sector use the discourse of professionalism to create ‘appropriate’ work conduct of care workers. Using Watson’s concept of professional talk, we study how managers in their daily work talk about professionalism of vocationally skilled care workers. Based on observations and recordings of mundane conversations by middle managers, we found four different professional talks that co-exist: appropriate looks and conduct, reflectivity about personal values and ‘good’ care, methodical work methods, competencies.
