  1. (1 other version)Combining Algebraizable Logics.Á E. Eiben, A. Jánossy & Á Kurucz - 1996 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 37 (2):366-380.
The general methodology of "algebraizing" logics is used here for combining different logics. The combination of logics is represented as taking the colimit of the constituent logics in the category of algebraizable logics. The cocompleteness of this category as well as its isomorphism to the corresponding category of certain first-order theories are proved.

  • Products of modal logics, part 1.D. Gabbay & V. Shehtman - 1998 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 6 (1):73-146.
The paper studies many-dimensional modal logics corresponding to products of Kripke frames. It proves results on axiomatisability, the finite model property and decidability for product logics, by applying a rather elaborated modal logic technique: p-morphisms, the finite depth method, normal forms, filtrations. Applications to first order predicate logics are considered too. The introduction and the conclusion contain a discussion of many related results and open problems in the area.

  • Recovering a logic from its fragments by meta-fibring.Marcelo Esteban Coniglio - 2007 - Logica Universalis 1 (2):377-416.
. In this paper we address the question of recovering a logic system by combining two or more fragments of it. We show that, in general, by fibring two or more fragments of a given logic the resulting logic is weaker than the original one, because some meta-properties of the connectives are lost after the combination process. In order to overcome this problem, the categories Mcon and Seq of multiple-conclusion consequence relations and sequent calculi, respectively, are introduced. The main feature (...)

  • Fibring: completeness preservation.Alberto Zanardo, Amilcar Sernadas & Cristina Sernadas - 2001 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 66 (1):414-439.
A completeness theorem is established for logics with congruence endowed with general semantics (in the style of general frames). As a corollary, completeness is shown to be preserved by fibring logics with congruence provided that congruence is retained in the resulting logic. The class of logics with equivalence is shown to be closed under fibring and to be included in the class of logics with congruence. Thus, completeness is shown to be preserved by fibring logics with equivalence and general semantics. (...)

  • Fibring in the Leibniz Hierarchy.Victor Fernández & Marcelo Coniglio - 2007 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 15 (5-6):475-501.
This article studies preservation of certain algebraic properties of propositional logics when combined by fibring. The logics analyzed here are classified in protoalgebraic, equivalential and algebraizable. By introducing new categories of algebrizable logics and of deductivizable quasi-varieties, it is stated an isomorphism between these categories. This constitutes an alternative to a similar result found in the literature.

  • An algebraic theory of normal forms.Silvio Ghilardi - 1995 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 71 (3):189-245.
In this paper we present a general theory of normal forms, based on a categorial result for the free monoid construction. We shall use the theory mainly for proposictional modal logic, although it seems to have a wider range of applications. We shall formally represent normal forms as combinatorial objects, basically labelled trees and forests. This geometric conceptualization is implicit in and our approach will extend it to other cases and make it more direct: operations of a purely geometric and (...)

  • Products of 'transitive' modal logics.David Gabelaia, Agi Kurucz, Frank Wolter & Michael Zakharyaschev - 2005 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 70 (3):993-1021.
We solve a major open problem concerning algorithmic properties of products of ‘transitive’ modal logics by showing that products and commutators of such standard logics as K4, S4, S4.1, K4.3, GL, or Grz are undecidable and do not have the finite model property. More generally, we prove that no Kripke complete extension of the commutator [K4,K4] with product frames of arbitrary finite or infinite depth (with respect to both accessibility relations) can be decidable. In particular, if.

  • On axiomatising products of Kripke frames.Agnes Kurucz - 2000 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 65 (2):923-945.
It is shown that the many-dimensional modal logic K n , determined by products of n-many Kripke frames, is not finitely axiomatisable in the n-modal language, for any $n > 2$ . On the other hand, K n is determined by a class of frames satisfying a single first-order sentence.

This is Part 1 of a paper on fibred semantics and combination of logics. It aims to present a methodology for combining arbitrary logical systems L i , i ∈ I, to form a new system L I . The methodology `fibres' the semantics K i of L i into a semantics for L I , and `weaves' the proof theory (axiomatics) of L i into a proof system of L I . There are various ways of doing this, we (...)

  • Approximations of modal logics: image and beyond.Guilherme Rabello & Marcelo Finger - 2008 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 152 (1-3):161-173.
Inspired by the recent work on approximations of classical logic, we present a method that approximates several modal logics in a modular way. Our starting point is the limitation of the n-degree of introspection that is allowed, thus generating modaln-logics. The semantics for n-logics is presented, in which formulas are evaluated with respect to paths, and not possible worlds. A tableau-based proof system is presented, n-SST, and soundness and completeness is shown for the approximation of modal logics image and image.
