Vor 200 Jahren erschien Kants Schrift "Zum ewigen Frieden". Zu einer der vordringlichsten, von der Philosophie aber häufig vernachlässigten Aufgaben der Politik stellt sie bis heute den wichtigsten klassischen Text dar. Kant entfaltet in ihm die philosophischen Grundlagen für eine internationale Rechts- und Friedensgemeinschaft. Gleichzeitig stellt er sich aber auch die Frage nach einer Vermittlung von normativer Theorie und politischer Praxis. In 12 Beiträgen wird Kants Text in diesem Band "entschlüsselt": interpretiert, auf seine systematische Überzeugungskraft und auf seine politische Tragweite (...) hin untersucht und in seinen und unseren sozialgeschichtlichen Kontext gestellt. Aunque los fundamentos filosóficos que subyacen en este emblemático e influyente ensayo han sido problematizados y el marco histórico se ha transformado profudamente, obligando a una radical reformulación, siguen en gran medida vigentes los principales objetivos propuestos. A la luz de Las ideas básicas del texto kantiano el autor examina algunas (...) observaciones formuladas contra la política de derechos humanos, mostrándose especialmente crítico con las objeciones vertidas por Carl Schmítt contra el pacifismo jurídico. En la discusión contemporánea sobre modelos normativos para un nuevo orden internacional está ampliamente aceptado que la justicia internacional requiere garantizar la paz, la seguridad y la defensa de los derechos humanos. Sin embargo, así́ como los objetivos de paz y seguridad son incontrovertibles, no puede decirse lo mismo del objetivo de protección de los derechos humanos. Los habituales candidatos al desacuerdo son los llamados derechos económicos y sociales, seguidos por los derechos políticos a la participación democrática. Algunos autores optan por la estrategia minimalista de identificar derechos humanos básicos, con la esperanza de suscitar aprobación universal en el seno de la comunidad internacional, mientras que otros siguen una estrategia más generosa, con la intención de incrementar las consecuencias normativas de sus propuestas. This Bible quotation can be understood as a rudimentary conception of personal morality, affirming that the moral assessment of your life depends, in part, upon your conduct toward your least fortunate neighbors. But a conception of personal morality does not capture all that matters morally about our lives - we must also consider our social institutions. These may be morally flawed; for example, they may define positions of utter dependence. And such flaws are not natural or necessary. Social institutions are (...) created, perpetuated, and changed by human beings, who may then bear some responsibility for such flaws. Thus morality may demand more than to treat the oppressed with kindness and charity: It may require efforts toward institutional reform.
