    I could summarise Being There unkindly, but not too inaccurately, as “Language of thought: bad. Everything else: good”. For the book is a fast and approving tour of a menagerie of alternatives to the classic computational theory of the mind. Some of the usual suspects appear— neural nets, connectionism—but they are not interrogated as deeply as the new members of the gang.
