  1. Intersectionality as buzzword: A sociology of science perspective on what makes a feminist theory successful.Kathy Davis - 2008 - Feminist Theory 9 (1):67-85.
Since its inception, the concept of `intersectionality' — the interaction of multiple identities and experiences of exclusion and subordination — has been heralded as one of the most important contributions to feminist scholarship. Despite its popularity, there has been considerable confusion concerning what the concept actually means and how it can or should be applied in feminist inquiry. In this article, I look at the phenomenon of intersectionality's spectacular success within contemporary feminist scholarship, as well as the uncertainties and confusion (...)

  • The Decentering of Second Wave Feminism and the Rise of the Third Wave.Susan Archer Mann & Douglas J. Huffman - 2005 - Science and Society 69 (1):56 - 91.
Third wave feminism is a new discourse for understanding and framing gender relations that arose out of a critique of thè second wave. Four major perspectives that share a common focus on difference, deconstruction and decentering con tribu ted to this new discourse: intersectionality theory; postmodernism/poststructuralism; feminist postcolonial theory; and the agenda of young feminists. A Marxist-feminist perspective grounds this new perspective in social and historical conditions and makes possible a materialist analysis of thè rise of the third wave.

  • Contemporary Feminist Politics: Women and Power in Britain.Joni Lovenduski & Vicky Randall - 1993 - Oxford University Press USA.
What happened to the feminist movement of the optimistic 1970s during the 1980s? Was it stifled by the political and economic changes associated with Thatcherism, or did it help bring those changes about? Will the 1990s see a new generation of feminists who will not tolerate the conditions under which their mothers work and live? Joni Lovenduski and Vicky Randall trace the movement's accomplishments and defeats over four successive Conservative governments. They argue that its development can only be understood in (...)

  • Feminism and its ghosts: The spectre of the feminist-as-lesbian.Victoria Hesford - 2005 - Feminist Theory 6 (3):227-250.
This article contends that feminism is haunted by its past, and that to be haunted means that feminists need to bear witness to the possibilities, often unrealized, of that past and to actively resist the policing and defensiveness that have marked feminism's relationship to its diverse history in recent years. It engages with the work of Terry Castle and Avery Gordon in order to make this argument, and to map out a methodology for looking for the ghosts of the recent (...)
