The sixteenth-century Cossacks became the favourite topic of Ukrainian authors of the nineteenth century who dealt with national and individual identity issues. Nikolai Gogol, the celebrated Russian author who had Ukrainian origin and was born in a Cossack village, wrote the epic romance of Taras Bulba, which narrated the story of Cossacks and their struggle for preserving their independence. While the work has been previously studied under the light of postcolonial theoretical framework, using the concepts developed by Homi Bhabha (...) to scrutinize the situation and the destiny of the two main hybrid characters, Taras Bulba’s sons, takes a step further and reveals the deeply ingrained anxiety and ambivalence in the Cossack mentality. The article focuses on the two main hybrid characters who choose divergent paths upon encountering the conflict brought to them by the imperial power. (shrink)

Guiada siempre por la brújula de la emancipación social, esta obra de Eugene Gogol destaca, en primer lugar, por ser un fecundo intento de análisis de la vinculación entre teoría y praxis, entre pensamiento y acción, en un contexto como el latinoamericano, signado históricamente tanto por la opresión como por la resistencia. El segundo momento que llama la atención de este libro es su pretensión de rescate del contenido revolucionario de la dialéctica de Hegel, figura muchas veces identificada únicamente (...) con su visión eurocéntrica, conservadora y terminal de la historia. Sin desconocer estos elementos, Gogol centra su atención en aquel indiscutible aporte del gran filósofo alemán que sirvió de fuente para la elaboración por Marx de su teoría revolucionaria: la dialéctica hegeliana. En particular, este texto tiene la intención de rastrear el recorrido del concepto del "otro" desde la dialéctica del amo y el esclavo en Hegel y desde otros momentos importantes del propio pensamiento hegeliano, asociados sobre todo al análisis de las implicaciones emancipatorias del proceso de autoconciencia del otro, pasando de ahí a Marx y su proyecto revolucionario, por un lado, y, por otro, a América Latina, tanto en lo referido a su realidad histórica de opresión capitalista, como a la resistencia y oposición que a ella se ha enfrentado desde el pensamiento y la praxis. Since ancient times, the problem of evil has attracted intellectual minds in China probably as strongly as any other philosophical issue. One might reasonably take the view that particular ways of argumentation on this topic shaped the spiritual portrait of any major period of thought in Chinese history. The present essay investigates some crucial shifts in China’s coming to terms with evil in the course of the last one hundred years. У статті вперше проведено аналіз закордонного листування М. В. Гоголя 1836 року у площині праці письменника над фрагментами мандрівного письма, які з’являються у певному колі листів: до рідних, близьких друзів та знайомих. Саме у цьому адресному колі листів М. В. Гоголя і виник підпростір листів – ескізів майбутніх мандрівних фрагментів «Мертвих душ». У статті вказано на те, що в основі системних проб М. В. Гоголя у мандрівному письмі лежить перетин різних мотивів і причин. Ядром досить тривалого періоду напрацювання М. В. (...) Гоголем власного стилю мандрівного письма у 1836 р. стає особиста перевірка на письмі неавторизованих діалогічних сцен «Як пишуться мандрівки?» Ф. Марріета та перегляд роману «Рейнські пілігрими» Е. Дж. БульвераЛіттона крізь критичні зауваження В. Г. Бєлінського до автора цього роману. У статті наведено приклади художнього перенесення фрагментів мандрівного письма із закордонного листування М.
