To celebrate his 80th birthday, the Roman universities of Roma Tre and the Pontifical Athenaeum S. Anselmo organised in May 2016 a conference entitled Around Gianni Vattimo. Friends, students and young researchers gathered for a moment of 'conversation' with one of the most important figures in contemporary Italian philosophy to retrace together some of the paths that Vattimo himself traced and opened up during his long academic and political career. Among the various themes of his thought, hermeneutics, Christianity and politics (...) were those privileged by the interventions of these memorable days: these in fact constitute the essential axes of the present volume that makes us re-read the fundamental knots of his philosophy. This work takes place under the banner of a new way of understanding philosophical research, no longer as the conquest of a unique and definitive knowledge, but as an infinite interpretative task, just as Heidegger and Nietzsche, the main authors of reference of the father of 'weak thought', now allow him to understand the search for Being that is given in language. The essay aims at demonstrating that it is dangerous to try to reconstruct a philosophical doctrine taking into account solely or predominantly the analysis of vocabulary. This is particularly true of the philosophical doctrines of the ancients, who generally did not feel obliged to adopt a coherent and unambiguous technical terminology. Starting from the essay of F. Camera, Sui molteplici significati di hermeneia in Platone, which was published in 2004 and then re-edited in 2011 with few modifications but with a (...) different title, the author shows that the method of facing Plato’s hermeneutics through the ἑρμηνεύειν-words is a source of distortions and over-interpretations; that is, it causes excessive density and conceptual significance to be attributed to words used instead in their current meaning. One must remember, even if it should be well known to anyone who devotes himself to these themes, that not all words, expressions and concepts become philosophical entities only because they appear in the works of an author tagged “philosophy.”. This paper aims to analyse the notion of familiarity in Dewey’s pragmatism in order to show its important role as a tool for human beings to interpret the reality, manage it, and act within it. Starting from an examination of Deweyan transactional realism, the discourse focuses on familiarity and its related terms (such as “familiar,”“to familiarize,”but also opposites such as “unknown” or “strange”) in Dewey’s thought, to finally come to highlight its fundamental hermeneutic role. This might be useful to account (...) for a subject of Deweyan thought not so deeply highlighted by scholarship and, at the same time, to show pragmatism’s closeness to hermeneutics regarding the relation between the human being and the real. -/- Questo articolo si prefigge di analizzare la nozione di familiarità nel pragmatismo di John Dewey, per mostrare come essa sia uno strumento importante a disposizione degli esseri umani per interpretare il reale, orientarsi ed agire in esso. Partendo da un esame del realismo transazionale deweyano, il discorso passa a delineare il ruolo della familiarità ed affini (termini come “familiare”, “familiarizzare” ma anche gli opposti “estraneo”, “ignoto” ecc.) nel filosofo americano fino ad evidenziarne il fondamentale ruolo ermeneutico. In tal modo, è fornito un resoconto su un aspetto del pensiero deweyano non adeguatamente messo in luce dalla ricerca e nello stesso tempo si individua un importante punto di contatto tra pragmatismo ed ermeneutica intorno alla questione del rapporto dell’essere umano con il reale. This contribution offers an analysis of the essays gathered and published by François Courtine in 1992 (Phénoménologie et Théologie), and authored by Jean-Louis Chrétien, Michel Henry, Jean-Luc Marion, and Paul Ricoeur. Attention is paid to the possibility of investigating the phenomena of the ‘religious sphere’, by taking into account the historical-cultural context typical of contemporary society, the role of art, and the problem of intersubjectivity. -/- .

Il Corso su L’ermeneutica del soggetto problematizza un tema che attraversa sottotraccia l’intera riflessione di Foucault, quello della tecnica. L’articolo, proponendo un dialogo fra Foucault, Heidegger e Simondon, prova a rintracciare lo sviluppo di questo tema, chiedendosi inoltre in che modo la tecnica entri in relazione con i processi di assoggettamento e di soggettivazione.

Resumen: Este texto introduce la primera traducción al español de los textos Schönheit [Belleza] de Hans-Georg Gadamer (trabajo escrito en los años ’70 y que vio la luz en alemán póstumamente en 2007) y Schönheit und Bürgerlichkeit [Belleza y burguesía] de Odo Marquard, publicado también en 2007 como respuesta demorada al trabajo del filósofo de Marburgo. Gadamer explora el desarrollo histórico del concepto de belleza en los siglos XIX y XX, poniendo énfasis en que la belleza siguió y seguirá siendo (...) no sólo un concepto estético sino un concepto normativo. Por su lado, Marquard contextualiza las ideas de Gadamer en su marco de producción original y realiza un análisis crítico de las mismas a partir de sus propias tempranas contribuciones a una teoría de las “ya no bellas artes”.// Abstract: This text introduces the first Spanish translation of Hans-Georg Gadamer’s Schönheit [Beauty] (work written in the 1970s and posthumously published in German in 2007) and Odo Marquard’s Schönheit und Bürgerlichkeit [Beauty and Bourgeoisie], published also in 2007 as a delayed response to Gadamer’s views. Gadamer explores the historical development of the concept of beauty in the 19th and 20th centuries, emphasizing that beauty continued and will continue to be not only an aesthetic concept but also a normative concept. For his part, Marquard contextualizes Gadamer’s ideas in their original production framework and performs a critical analysis of them based on his own early contributions to a theory of the “no longer beautiful arts”. La simbologia iniziatica raccoglie varie forme di simboli: quelli che appartengono a un’antica tradizione e che si ripresentano come una normalizzazione del passato in chiave modernizzata; quelli che derivano da un patto tra i membri della collettività iniziatica e che garantiscono l’unità del gruppo, che sono sincronici nell’ambito del gruppo stesso; quelli che hanno il senso di proiezione al superamento dei limiti gnoseologici del gruppo e dei suoi membri, sono tradizionali ma mediante il loro carattere di molteplicità semantica offrono nuove (...) opportunità gnoseologiche. Il silenzio non fa parte della prima categoria, perché non tutti i gruppi iniziatici antichi o tradizionali lo utilizzavano ritualmente o lo consideravano come simbolo e quindi non poteva avere una funzione normativa suscettibile di modernizzazione. Può essere momento cruciale del secondo quando viene ritualizzato nelle diverse fasi d’apprendimento sulla base di una pattuizione connessa alla creazione del rituale e costituendosi come uno dei fulcri sincronici del gruppo, assicurando la sua unitarietà. Può anche appartenere al terzo caso quando assume una veste tradizionale ma avendo una sua pluridimensionalità semantica, nella comunione del dicere e tacere pulsa di opportunità nuove per l’accrescimento iniziatico. Il silenzio nel contesto iniziatico è una forma linguistica specifica che caratterizza tutto il percorso degli iniziati. Questi elaborano all’interno del gruppo la sintassi del silenzio, la morfologia dei simboli espressi tacitamente, senza spiegare compiutamente i loro significati. Ogni simbolo, o segno in senso semiotico, ha delle diverse significazioni per le diverse fasi del percorso iniziatico. Ognuno appartiene a una diversa tipologia di rapporto con ciò a cui si riferisce: ha rapporto di “similarità” come il disegno di una squadra e compasso che illustra degli oggetti operativi, di “prossimità” quando manifesta l’operazione di misurazione e di relazione dei rapporti alla quale l’oggetto è destinato, di “concordanza” se rinvia all’oggetto dentro la cognizione di una regola architettonica. Il simbolo in quanto forma speciale di segno si manifesta (prima fase d’apprendimento), come nell’esempio, in modalità iconografico-descrittiva contenente un significato “dettato”. È una dictatio iniziatica da tenere nel silenzio di fronte al mondo essoterico , del quale l’iniziando è ancora permeato, la simbologia deve essere evocata senza esplicitarne i suoi intimi significati, la si descrive ma non la si espone compiutamente. È il valore evocativo, indeterminato e silenziato, che deve stimolare l’iniziando alla ricerca dei significati. L’indeterminazione del silenzio destruttura l’essoterico, il suo pensiero le sue categorie criteri e valori, porta al deserto dei significati essoterici come via all’ontologia del linguaggio iniziatico. È stadio di attesa, di rinvio a un mondo altro. Si sospettano dei significati che nella successiva fase incominciano a palesarsi in una dictatio più precisa, un dictamen funzionale a rappresentare il concetto di misurazione nelle sue plurime significanze ove la misura è assunta come astrazione simbolico-concettuale. Proseguendo, il segno in forma di oggetto si spoglia di ogni rimando fattuale ed esistenziale, di comunicazione di un’astrazione o ideazione concettuale e si smaschera nel suo essere “regola” iniziatica. Revolutionary Gnosticism is a religious–philo- sophical category introduced in the academic debate by the philosopher Eric Voegelin (1901–1985). Starting from his important work, several philosophers and sociologists have adopted Gnosticism as a useful explanatory notion to frame and define numerous modern and contemporary political and cultural movements. The immanentization of the eschaton, which is a renowned Voegelian expression, intimately defines the politico–cultural project of revolutionary Gnosticism. The destruction of the past for the creation of a new world, the last aeon, (...) demarcates the vision of history of revolutionary Gnosticism. Hence, according to a similar Weltanschauung, man replaces God, giving birth to «the idea of a transfiguration of mankind through a process of auto–redemption (grace replaced by revolution)» (Augusto Del Noce). The paper aims to investigate in broad terms the vast time span in which the concept of rev- olutionary Gnosticism has taken shape, from ancient Gnosis to Late Middle Ages, through seventeenth century Puritanism and Jacobinism, until twentieth–century totalitarianisms, eventually suggesting further lines of research. The present study intends to suggest a new interpretation for politico–revolutionary phenomena that have emerged in the whole West and in all epochs, with the purpose of finding a recurrent pattern that reflects one of the most disruptive intellectual engine for radical politics. This paper studies five approaches on the future of alterity that awaits ideas and doctrines. According to these predictions, embedded in texts by Weber, Meinecke, Butterfield, Merleau-Ponty and Koselleck, the coming forms of thinking shall endure the same destiny affecting the ideas of the past because they will evolve without relying on historical sameness. The future of Western thought, in short, is bound to an unpredictable “destiny of otherness”. These claims, taken together, outline a redirection of the genealogical untangling to (...) the future. While they persist on linking present phenomena to realities deemed historically “other”, they also foresee that this fate of alterity will prevail in future times, an enlargement of scope that results in a symmetrically expanded genealogy. This universalized “discourse of historical otherness” makes evident that genealogy, in addition to its involvement with past vicissitudes of ideas and beliefs, is also bound to explore their future emmeshing with alterity. Its “forward-looking inflection” will proscribe historiographic prolepsis, contending that the destiny of otherness awaiting ideas and doctrines excludes any surmise about the meaning they will be given in the future.
