  1. Review: Aristotle’s Syllogistic Underlying Logic: His Model with His Proofs of Soundness and Completeness. [REVIEW]C. G. King - 2023 - History and Philosophy of Logic (4):1–3.
This book presents a (new) attempt to apply the notion of an underlying logic to Aristotle’s Organon and certain passages of the Metaphysics. The author situates his approach as part of a ‘deductio...

Alfredo Di Giorgio - 2013 - In Alfredo Di Giorgio & Daniele Chiffi (eds.), Prova e Giustificazione. G. Giappichelli Editore. pp. 19-50.

  • Proclus and the neoplatonic syllogistic.John N. Martin - 2001 - Journal of Philosophical Logic 30 (3):187-240.
An investigation of Proclus' logic of the syllogistic and of negations in the Elements of Theology, On the Parmenides, and Platonic Theology. It is shown that Proclus employs interpretations over a linear semantic structure with operators for scalar negations (hypemegationlalpha-intensivum and privative negation). A natural deduction system for scalar negations and the classical syllogistic (as reconstructed by Corcoran and Smiley) is shown to be sound and complete for the non-Boolean linear structures. It is explained how Proclus' syllogistic presupposes converting the (...)

  • Lesniewski and Russell's paradox: Some problems.Rafal Urbaniak - 2008 - History and Philosophy of Logic 29 (2):115-146.
Sobocinski in his paper on Leśniewski's solution to Russell's paradox (1949b) argued that Leśniewski has succeeded in explaining it away. The general strategy of this alleged explanation is presented. The key element of this attempt is the distinction between the collective (mereological) and the distributive (set-theoretic) understanding of the set. The mereological part of the solution, although correct, is likely to fall short of providing foundations of mathematics. I argue that the remaining part of the solution which suggests a specific (...)
