Continuity and Providence

Abstract

This paper posits that our understanding of reality is shaped by our cognitive tools, particularly our inclination to establish hierarchies of importance. By examining the nature of causation and correlation, the text argues that correlation is a more primordial concept, preceding causation in human cognition. This framework is applied to the analysis of human motivation, where the concepts of procreation, meaning, and power are evaluated as potential core drivers. Ultimately, the paper proposes continuity as the most self-serving core, underlying human behavior and emotions. The implications of this finding for understanding human nature and the potential for future cognitive evolution are briefly explored.
