  • The Light vs. Dark Triad of Personality: Contrasting Two Very Different Profiles of Human Nature.Scott Barry Kaufman, David Bryce Yaden, Elizabeth Hyde & Eli Tsukayama - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10.
While there is a growing literature on “dark traits” (i.e., socially aversive traits), there has been a lack of integration with the burgeoning research literature on positive traits and fulfilling and growth-oriented outcomes in life. To help move the field toward greater integration, we contrasted the nomological network of the Dark Triad (a well-studied cluster of socially aversive traits) with the nomological network of the Light Triad, measured by the 12-item Light Triad Scale (LTS). The LTS is a first draft (...)

  • An IRT Analysis of Motive Questionnaires: The Unified Motive Scales.Felix D. Schönbrodt & Friederike X. R. Gerstenberg - unknown
Multiple inventories claiming to assess the same explicit motive show only mediocre convergent validity. In three studies the structure, nomological net, and content coverage of multiple existing motive scales was investigated with exploratory factor analyses. The analyses revealed four approach factors and a general avoidance factor with a facet structure. New scales were developed using IRT, reflecting these underlying dimensions. In comparison to existing questionnaires, the UMS have the highest measurement precision and provide short and ultra-short scales. In a fourth (...)

  • Understanding the Effects of Antecedents on Continuance Intention to Gather Food Safety Information on Websites.Hsinyeh Tsai, Yu-Ping Lee & Athapol Ruangkanjanases - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Virtual community websites are one of the applications that provide a platform for people with common interests to extend their social relations in social media. With the proliferation of food safety incidents in recent years, social media has often been a major channel for public engagement in risk communication because of its social networking and immediate interaction. To understand the users’ needs and satisfaction, this study proposed a model to develop and evaluate the antecedents of continuance intention toward food safety (...)

  • Anxiety and Social Support as Predictors of Student Academic Motivation During the COVID-19.Ana Camacho, Nadine Correia, Sonia Zaccoletti & João R. Daniel - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
In this study we examined whether parents’ perceptions of students’ anxiety as well as perceived support from both teachers and classmates were predictive of changes in students’ academic motivation during the first wave of COVID-19. To this end, we used a retrospective pretest-posttest design together with a latent change score model to analyze our data. From April to May of 2020, 394 Portuguese parents of students in grades 1–9 participated in this study. Our results showed that students’ anxiety and teachers’ (...)

  • How E-Learning Environmental Stimuli Influence Determinates of Learning Engagement in the Context of COVID-19? SOR Model Perspective.Junhui Yang, Michael Yao-Ping Peng, ShwuHuey Wong & WeiLoong Chong - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
The COVID-19 pandemic at the beginning of 2020 has changed the conventional learning mode for most students at schools all over the world, and the e-learning at home has become a new trend. Taking Chinese college students as the research subject and drawing on the stimulus–organism–response model, this paper examines the relationship between the peer referent, perceived closeness, and perceived control and the learning engagement. Using data from 377 college students who have used e-learning, this study shows that perceived closeness, (...)
