  • Dependent pairs.Ayhan Günaydin & Philipp Hieronymi - 2011 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 76 (2):377 - 390.
We prove that certain pairs of ordered structures are dependent. Among these structures are dense and tame pairs of o-minimal structures and further the real field with a multiplicative subgroup with the Mann property, regardless of whether it is dense or discrete.

  • A note on groups definable in the p -adic field.Anand Pillay & Ningyuan Yao - 2019 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 58 (7-8):1029-1034.
It is known Hrushovski and Pillay that a group G definable in the field \ of p-adic numbers is definably locally isomorphic to the group \\) of p-adic points of a algebraic group H over \. We observe here that if H is commutative then G is commutative-by-finite. This shows in particular that any one-dimensional group G definable in \ is commutative-by-finite. This result extends to groups definable in p-adically closed fields. We prove our results in the more general context (...)

  • Interpretable Sets in Dense o-Minimal Structures.Will Johnson - 2018 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 83 (4):1477-1500.
We give an example of a dense o-minimal structure in which there is a definable quotient that cannot be eliminated, even after naming parameters. Equivalently, there is an interpretable set which cannot be put in parametrically definable bijection with any definable set. This gives a negative answer to a question of Eleftheriou, Peterzil, and Ramakrishnan. Additionally, we show that interpretable sets in dense o-minimal structures admit definable topologies which are “tame” in several ways: (a) they are Hausdorff, (b) every point (...)

  • Definable V-topologies, Henselianity and NIP.Yatir Halevi, Assaf Hasson & Franziska Jahnke - 2019 - Journal of Mathematical Logic 20 (2):2050008.
We initiate the study of definable [Formula: see text]-topologies and show that there is at most one such [Formula: see text]-topology on a [Formula: see text]-henselian NIP field. Equivalently, we show that if [Formula: see text] is a bi-valued NIP field with [Formula: see text] henselian, then [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are comparable. As a consequence, Shelah’s conjecture for NIP fields implies the henselianity conjecture for NIP fields. Furthermore, the latter conjecture is proved for any field admitting (...)

  • Dp-Minimality: Basic Facts and Examples.Alfred Dolich, John Goodrick & David Lippel - 2011 - Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logic 52 (3):267-288.
We study the notion of dp-minimality, beginning by providing several essential facts about dp-minimality, establishing several equivalent definitions for dp-minimality, and comparing dp-minimality to other minimality notions. The majority of the rest of the paper is dedicated to examples. We establish via a simple proof that any weakly o-minimal theory is dp-minimal and then give an example of a weakly o-minimal group not obtained by adding traces of externally definable sets. Next we give an example of a divisible ordered Abelian (...)
