L’analisi dell´autobiografia dello schizofrenico John Perceval condotta da Gregory Bateson consente di ripensare la nozione di responsabilità alla luce dell´idea "ecologica" di individuo in relazione, differente dall´idea moderna di individuo auto¬determinantesi. L´uscita dal delirio di onnipotenza dell´io da parte di Perceval è descritta come riconoscimento riconoscente del proprio essere parte attiva, nel bene come nel male, della più ampia "danza interattiva" della quale egli è vittima sacrificale. Dalla colpa per i suoi dubbi sulle buone ragioni dei familiari e dei medici, (...) Perceval passa alla responsabilità per questi stessi dubbi, un processo formalmente analogo a quello della conversione religiosa.Gregory Bateson´s analysis of John Perceval´s autobiography allows re-thinking of the notion of responsibility, in terms of the "ecological" idea of an individual in relationship, an idea which is different from the modern idea of a self-determining individual. Perceval´s way out from the all-powerful delirium of the self is described as a grateful recognizing of being an active part - for good and for evil - of the wider "interactive dance" which makes him a sacrificial victim. Perceval passed from the blame for his doubts about the good reasons of his parents and of his doctors, to the responsibility for these very doubts.
