  • Organizational Isomorphism and Corruption in Financial Institutions: Empirical Research in Emerging Countries.Bertrand Venard & Mohamed Hanafi - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 81 (2):481-498.
The globalizations of capital markets in the last 20 years has led to a historic degree of financial integration in the world. It is clear, however, that globalization is not conducive to a complete homogeneity of financial markets and institutions. Among others, one element of diversity is the importance of the impact of corruption in emerging countries. Corruption decreases the credibility of financial institutions and markets. Scandals and unethical behavior in financial institutions erode confidence in such firms. Relying on neoinstitutional (...)

  • Balancing State, Market and Social Justice: Russian Experiences and Lessons to Learn.Vladimir Avtonomov - 2006 - Journal of Business Ethics 66 (1):3-9.
This article deals with the relations in the triangle state–society–business in modern Russia. It is shown against Russian historical background, that the absolutist state in this country could never be identified with the society and these relations were shaped under its strong domination. The ethics of rule-following characteristic for market economy in general did not develop in Russia. The breakdown of communist Russia and market reforms proceeding since 1992 did not change this situation significantly. The period of political alliance between (...)

  • The Dark Side of Authority: Antecedents, Mechanisms, and Outcomes of Organizational Corruption.Ruth V. Aguilera & Abhijeet K. Vadera - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 77 (4):431-449.
Corruption poisons corporations in America and around the world, and has devastating consequences for the entire social fabric. In this article, we focus on organizational corruption, described as the abuse of authority for personal benefit, and draw on Weber’s three ideal-types of legitimate authority to develop a theoretical model to better understand the antecedents of different types of organizational corruption. Specifically, we examine the types of business misconduct that organizational leaders are likely to engage in, contingent on their legitimate authority, (...)

  • International validation of the corruption perceptions index: Implications for business ethics and entrepreneurship education. [REVIEW]Paul G. Wilhelm - 2002 - Journal of Business Ethics 35 (3):177 - 189.
International government and corporate corruption is increasingly under siege. Although various groups of researchers have quantified and documented world-wide corruption, apparently no one has validated the measures. This study finds a very strong significant correlation of three measures of corruption with each other, thereby indicating validity. One measure was of Black Market activity, another was of overabundance of regulation or unnecessary restriction of business activity. The third measure was an index based on interview perceptions of corruption (Corruption Perceptions Index or (...)
