This paper presents a software solution that automates the dubbing process using a combination of technologies like Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Machine Translation (MT), andText-to-Speech (TTS). The process begins by converting English audio into text using ASR, followed by translation into the (...) target Indian language through advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) models. The translated text is then synthesized into natural-sounding speech using TTS engines like Google Text-to-Speech (gTTS). Finally, the dubbed audio is synchronized with the original video to ensure proper lip-sync and timing. This research studied the interaction influence of demographic characteristics (marital status, job rank, gender and age) and occupational stress level, on the work performance of faculty members in Calabar Metropolis. The descriptive survey design was utilized for this investigation. A sample of 150 respondents was identified using the systematic random sampling procedure from a population of 400 Faculty of Education lecturers from two public universities in Calabar Metropolis. A four-point scale validity and reliability certified questionnaire was used for data collection. (...) Data generated was analyzed using the two-way analysis of variance. Hypotheses were all tested at the 0.05 alpha level. Findings revealed a significant interactive effect of demographic variables (age, gender, job rank and marital status) and stress levels on lecturers' jobs. Results also indicated that the stress level of lecturers affects the degree or quality of job performance, with those having average stress levels reporting better job performance in the universities studied. Recommendations were made that all lecturers, irrespective of age, gender, marital status or rank, should develop or adopt good stress management skills and disengage/reduce extra jobs and other unnecessary stress-inducing activities. ©. This essay analyzes the rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT-4 or Gemini, which are now incorporated in a wide range of products and services in everyday life. Importantly, it considers some of their hidden human costs. First, is the question of who is left behind by the further infusion of LLMs in society. Second, is the issue of social inequalities between lingua franca and those which are not. Third, LLMs will help disseminate scientific concepts, but their (...) meanings' dissemination is at risk. Fourth, is the issue of information security and how nations and individuals might adapt. Fifth, is the issue of the environmental cost of LLMs for future generations. Además, se exploran las implicaciones éticas de este complejo tema. There are calls from various sectors, including the popular press, industry, and academia, to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI)-based technologies in general, and large language models (LLMs) (such as ChatGPT and Gemini) in particular, into various spheres of the South African higher education sector. Nonetheless, the implementation of such technologies is not without ethical risks, notably those related to bias, unfairness, privacy violations, misinformation, lack of transparency, and threats to autonomy. This paper gives an overview of the more pertinent ethical (...) concerns that may result from the deployment of various current AI technologies in the South African higher education context. It provides a broad overview of the relevant AI ethics literature and distills a few general AI-ethics principles that can serve as guidelines for the ethical development, adoption, and use of AI systems. Suggestions are made as to how these might be applied to mitigate the ethical concerns in the South African higher education context. Overall, it is argued that AI technologies should only be adopted if they offer demonstrable benefits to stakeholders affected by them and that care should be taken to ensure that any potential harms are adequately addressed. This Essay discusses whether U.S. law is ready for artificial intelligence (“AI”) which is headed down the road of blurring the line between human and machine minds. Perhaps the most high-profile and recent examples of AI are Large Language Models (“LLMs”) such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini that can generate written text, reason and analyze in a manner that seems to mimic human capabilities. U.S. law is based on English common law, which in turn incorporates Christian principles that assume (...) the dominance and uniqueness of humankind. U.S. law assumes human communication skills are accompanied by attributes such as consciousness and Free Will (“FW”) that, in turn, underpin critical legal concepts such as mens rea – i.e., intent. Philosophers and others generally agree that consciousness is necessary for FW. On the assumption that human beings possess consciousness that supports FW, the law thereafter deems human beings capable of acting with legal consequences, from entering into contracts to committing crimes. With a focus on LLMs, the Essay suggests that U.S. law may struggle to respond to AI because the technology disrupts the law’s assumptions regarding the uniqueness of human traits and abilities such as consciousness, FW, written communications and reasoning. The World Health Organization has declared the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Covid-19 as pandemic across the world. With its alarming surge of affected cases throughout the world, lockdown, and awareness (social distancing, use of masks etc.) among people are found to be the only means for restricting the community transmission. In a densely populated country like India, it is very difficult to prevent the community transmission even during lockdown without social awareness and precautionary measures taken by the people. Recently, (...) several containment zones had been identified throughout the country and divided into red, orange and green zones, respectively. The red zones indicate the infection hotspots, orange zones denote some infection and green zones indicate an area with no infection. Contact tracing is known to be an effective technique for detecting and monitoring persons who may have been exposed to individuals infected with any communicable disease. While a good number of contact tracing schemas are existent today (eg., in-person and phone interviews, paper forms, email and web based questionnaires and smartphone apps), they often require active user participation and might miss certain COVID-19 transmission. The Android application updates the locations of the areas in a Google map which are identified to be the containment zones. The application also notifies the users if they have entered a containment zone and to achieve all these functionalities, many tools, and APIs from Google like Firebase and Geofencing API are used in this application. Therefore, this application can be used as a tool for creating further social awareness about the arising need of precautionary measures to be taken by the people of India. (shrink)

A meliponicultura é a criação racional de abelhas nativas sem ferrão. A criação r acional de abelhas indígenas é uma atividade auxiliar na geração de trabalho e renda, contribuindo para a melhoria da qualidade de vida dos criadores, além de ser uma atividade economicamente viável, ecologicamente sustentável e socialmente justa. -/- O conhecimento sobre as abelhas sem ferrão e a meliponicultura nas Américas é muito antigo quando comparado com as atividades envolvendo, nesse continente, as abelhas Apis mellifera. Há muito tempo, (...) povos indígenas de diversos territórios se relacionam com os meliponíneos de muitas formas, seja estudando-os, criando-os de forma rústica ou explorando-os de forma predatória. -/- Antes da chegada da abelha Apis mellifera no continente americano, ou da exploração da cana para fabricação de açúcar, o mel das abelhas nativas caracterizava-se como principal adoçante natural, fonte de energia indispensável em longas caçadas e caminhadas que esses povos realizavam na busca por alimento. -/- Muito do conhecimento tradicional acumulado pela população nativa foi gradativamente assimilado pelas diferentes sociedades pós-colonização, tornando a domesticação das abelhas sem ferrão uma tradição popular que se difundiu principalmente nas regiões norte e nordeste do Brasil. A herança indígena presente na atual lida com as abelhas é evidenciada pelos nomes populares de muitas espécies, como é o caso da Uruçu Nordestina ou Uruçu Verdadeira (Melipona scutellaris), uma palavra que vem do tupi "eiru'su", que nessa língua indígena significa “abelha grande”. -/- O nome "uruçu" está relacionado com diversas abelhas do mesmo gênero, encontradas não só no Nordeste, mas também na região amazônica. A tendência, porém, é a de reservar o termo “uruçu” para a abelha da zona da mata do litoral baiano e nordestino, que se destaca pelo tamanho avantajado (semelhante à Apis), pela produção de mel expressiva entre os meliponíneos e pela facilidade do manejo, pois são abelhas mansas. -/- Estudos já realizados mostraram o relacionamento da uruçu com a mata úmida, que apresenta as condições ideais para as abelhas construírem seus ninhos, além de encontrarem, em árvores de grande porte, espécies com floradas mais abundantes, que são seus principais recursos alimentares, bem como locais de morada e reprodução. A Uruçu (Melipona scutellaris) possui uma preferência floral mais seletiva do que as abelhas africanizadas, razão porque se encontram em vias de extinção. (shrink)

The primary purpose of this work is to provide an efficient solution for translating website content from English to Hindi, thereby promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the digital space. The methodology involves using the Google Translate API for accurate translations and employing web scraping techniques to retrieve content from user-specified URLs. The application enables (...) users to input a URL, automatically scrape its HTML content, and display the translated text in a user-friendly format. Key results demonstrate that the tool effectively translates various web pages, preserving context and meaning while providing immediate access to crucial information. Major conclusions highlight the importance of such tools in bridging communication gaps, enhancing user engagement with government websites, and facilitating better understanding of services among Hindi-speaking populations. The successful implementation of this project underscores the potential for expanding access to information in multilingual societies and suggests avenues for further development, including additional language support and integration with other online services. Intentional relations and causal relations are the basis of this explication (influenced by Posner) that is also meant to give an idea of those properties that are typical of pieces of fine arts and of some other cultural practices. Additionally, it helps in understanding the difference between typical images and more abstract symbols. -/- Im ersten Abschnitt werden Gründe dafür genannt, Bildsein als mindestens vierstellige Beziehung aufzufassen: als Beziehung zwischen dem Bild (x2), Rezipienteneigenschaften (B), dem Bildgegenstand (x3) und Eigenschaften (M) des Bildgegenstandes.
