    This chapter reviews the history of the major ideas of successful ageing, their current state, and criticism. The original concept of successful ageing understood as life satisfaction continuing into later maturity, was developed by Havighurst in the early 1960s. Afterward, it was associated with active, healthy, positive, or productive ageing.     У статті здійснено порівняльний аналіз концепцій ментального слова (verbum mentis) могилянських професорів Інокентія Ґізеля і Йосифа Волчанського. Аналіз спирається на латинськомовні рукописні трактати «De anima» Ґізеля (1646–1647 рр.) і «De corpore animato» Волчанського (1715–1717 рр.). Запропоновані тут концепції інтелектуального пізнання розглядаються у контексті західної схоластичної традиції. З’ясовано, що розуміння інтелектуального пізнання Інокентієм Ґізелем і Йосифом Волчанським суттєво відрізнялися.     Розглянуто палеолітичні композиції із зображенням птаха, які передають релігійно-світоглядні уявлення первісної людини. З’ясовано, що в мистецтві палеоліту образ птаха мав два головних значення: символу верхньої частини світобудови в бінарній та в триярусній вертикальній моделі всесвіту та символу душі, яка після смерті людини підіймається у вищий світ. Підкреслено семантичну спорідненість образу птаха як символу душі з образом жінки, яка вважалась носителькою душ ще не народжених дітей.
