    Quine's holistic empiricist account of scientific inquiry can be characterized by three constitutive principles: *noncontradiction*, *universal revisability* and *pragmatic ordering*. We show that these constitutive principles cannot be regarded as statements within a holistic empiricist's scientific theory of the world.     O objetivo desse artigo é lançar luz sobre a tese da indeterminação da referênciade Quine, usando para isso a distinção feita por Frege entre agregados e conjuntos. Alémda distinção fregiana, usaremos também algumas noções de teoria dos modelos, tais como“modelos alternativos” e “morfismos entre traduções”.

    On what seems to be the best interpretation, what Quine calls 'the problem of synonymy' in Two Dogmas is the problem of approximating the extension of our pretheoretic concept of synonymy by clear and respectable means. Quine thereby identified a problem which he himself did not think had any solution, and so far he has not been proven wrong. Some difficulties for providing a solution are discussed in this paper.
