    This article examines the practice of synthetic biology, and its relevance in terms of technoscientific responses to the Anthropocene. The article offers a brief history of the practice, and contextualises synthetic biology within the wider field of controversial ‘technofixes’ that are proposed for ameliorating the existential challenge that is the Anthropocene. In particular, it explores the emerging relationship between conservation biology and synthetic biology, whereby the latter is put forward as an integral means for intervening in ecosystems and evolution itself.

    This article addresses the implications of rapid and uncertain ecological change, and global climate change in particular, for reserve oriented and restoration oriented ecosystem management.     Eric Katz in Zombie Arguments defends the thesis authenticity is indispensable to conservation. I agree. However, I argue authenticity appears in degrees and can be reclaimed by populations through their continuing evolutionary responses to the world. This means that interventions that diminish the value of a population through reducing their authenticity can be permitted in limited cases.   • The Consequentialistic Side of Environmental Ethics.Daniel Holbrook - 1997 - Environmental Values 6 (1):87-96.
    There are two principles often found in environmental ethics – self-realisation and environmental preservation. I argue that these are two logically independent principles. An analysis of its essential features shows that the preservation principle should be based on actual consequentialism, for it is only the actual effects of our actions and policies that are important to the main issues of environmental preservation. Aldo Leopold's land ethic is found to be an example of a consequentialistic theory of environmental preservation.
