Si superamos esta crisis de relaciones, asumiendo nuevos paradigmas políticos y sociales, aseguraremos la base de una nueva convivencia democrática, integradora y solidaria, que responda al reto de la globalización y la interdependencia. Sólo se saldrá de la crisis de relaciones desde valores basados en la solidaridad, asentada en la confianza mutua. In this article, we consider Wittgenstein’s approach to non-inferential knowledge, its relation to special propositions, and the nature of the justification of these propositions. According to Wittgenstein, there is a kind of non-inferential knowledge whose rational status is not the result of basic beliefs (in a foundational sense) that justify it. In Wittgenstein’s rule-following analysis, Frege’s theory is criticized. This theory is based on the idea that having a conceptual repertoire prior to the understanding of any rule, requires having grasped (...) the conditions of verification of a rule, which is a source of problems. Thomas Kuhn's philosophy brought a series of important ways of interpreting scientific practice, where history came to be understood as a significant part of this dynamic. In his 1962 “The Structure of Scientific Revolutions”, Kuhn provided us with some important concepts such as paradigm, normal science, anomalies and extraordinary science. From then on, science was no longer seen only as a logical structure related to discovery – but it was suggested that scientific changes occurred due to an increase in unresolved (...) problems that were sometimes ignored; contrary to what a science standardized by Popper's falsificationism could propose. Science in its normal period would be extremely traditionalist, remaining faithful to its paradigm and ignoring a series of problems – the paradigm being, among various ways of describing such a term, as a matrix of models. After many ignored and unresolved problems, a crisis can set in and from this process new paradigms can emerge: note that this dynamic can be related to a historical process within science. (shrink)

A priori theories of justification of logic based on meaning often lead to trouble, in particular to issues concerning circularity. First, I present Boghossian’s a prioriview. Boghossian maintains the rule-circular justifications from a conceptual role semantics. However, rule-circular justifications are problematic. Recently, Boghossian (Boghossian, 2015) has claimed that rules should be thought of as contents and contents as abstract objects. In this paper, I discuss Boghossian’s view. My argumentation consists of three main parts. First, I analyse several arguments to show (...) that in fact, Boghossian’s inferentialist solution is not fully satisfying. Second, I discuss the matter further, if one accepts that basic logical rules are constitutive of meaning, that is, they constitute the logical concepts and the content of a rule is an abstract object, then abstract objects — like, for example, rules — could be constitutive of meaning. The question is whether conceptual priority is in the judgment or in the object and what theory of content is pursued. Grasping content as a matter of knowing how a word or concept behaves in inferences is not completely explicative. Finally, I contend that rules come to exist as a result of certain kinds of mental action. These actions function as constitutive norms. Logical rules are not abstract objects but ideal. What one construes as norms or rules of content may involve idealization, but this is because we share a language. (shrink)

El propósito de este artículo es analizar hasta qué punto la estructura no naturalista de lo humano ha difuminado la distinción tradicional entre lo humano y lo que no es humano y, al mismo tiempo, presentar brevemente el desacuerdo existente dentro del posthumanismo. In 2003, the then president of the United States, George W. Bush, started a war against Iraq, under the arguments that Saddam Hussein had possession of several weapons of mass destruction and that he harbored members of Al-Qaeda. The question of the existence of these weapons was questionable, but it led to a war that culminated in Hussein's removal from power and his arrest – later sentenced to death for his conduct in that country. It is interesting to show that (...) the existence – or not – of that arsenal, never seen before, is a question about an ontology. The question about how the intelligence service arrived at this answer is epistemic; defining how a conclusion is reached, like the one we illustrate, or how it is sustained, are epistemological biases. One of the tasks we will pursue is to discuss the specialty of Epistemology itself as well as its interfaces, within or outside philosophy. To begin this edition, it is necessary for us to reflect on this important area of philosophy, and in turn a metaphilosophical reflection.

We open number 3, volume 3, in 2022 with some reflections about the time in which we are present: to contextualize we need to mention that our country is about to hold general elections, in a situation that has increasingly worsened in relation to the risk to the integrity of the election – where the president of the republic has attacked the reliability of electronic surveys in exchange for avoiding proof of his suspicions; in addition to raising a tangle of (...) argumentative confusion to deter various unfounded suspicions. We live in a period in which fake news, popularly called fake news, runs freely on instant messengers and, even before any verification of its veracity, is taken as real things and propagated in the name of ignorance, the permanence of power and hatred. This paper describle about the discovery and development of the concept of the particle named "neutrino", using the perspective of the philosophy of science of Imre Lakatos. With this focus, we making a historiographical and epistemological analysis of scientific practice, which culminated in its formulation, as well as subsequent developments. In this sense, the work makes a rational reconstruction regarding the research program that the formulation and discovery of the neutrino participates in, as well as the principle of conservation of (...) energy that can be understood as a fundamental part of the methodological assumptions of such program. This dissertation attempts to apply Imre Lakatos' Philosophy of Science to the research program of Mary Schweitzer and staff, presented in two papers published in Science: one of them about the discovery of T-Rex with soft tissue and a later one reporting the detection of collagen. This case-study highlights the more general applicability of Lakatos' Methodology of Scientific Research Programmes to scientific practice in Evolutionary Biology.

Tendo concluído a incompatibilidade entre este modelo de atribuição e os seres mutáveis em uma realidade múltipla, ele percebeu que a noção de não-ser deveria ser desvinculada do entendimento de Parmênides através da nova noção de não-ser como diferença apresentada no Sofista. Paralelamente, Aristóteles apresenta um ordenamento parecido através da sua teoria física sobre o movimento, baseada (...) na ideia de contrários, e do princípio de não- contradição e identidade desenvolvidos na Metafísica. Em Aristóteles, contrariedade, contradição, movimento, mudança e identidade são conceitos fundamentais para se compreender em um nível elementar como ele trata o problema da relação entre conhecimento e contingencia. This essay uses Arnaldo Momigliano's genealogy of antiquarianism and historiography to propose a new method for engaging the past. Momigliano traced antiquarianism from its advent in ancient Greece and later growth in Rome to its early modern efflorescence, its usurpation by history, and its transformation into anthropology and sociology in late modernity. Antiquarianism performed for Momigliano the work of excavating past archives while infusing historiographical inquiry with a much-needed dose of contingency. This essay aims to advance our understanding of (...) the mutual imbrications of antiquarian methods with modern conceptions of history, while also suggesting how antiquarianism can generate alternatives to historical inquiry.
