Thomas Kelly's book 'Bias: A philosophical study', is a philosophical exploration of the phenomena of bias and our practice of attributing it. He delves into the multifaceted nature of bias and offers a norm theoretic account for conceptualizing the phenomenon as typically involving "systematic departures from the norms". As a topic of inquiry, bias has attracted comparatively less attention in philosophy than in other disciplines like psychology and statistics. Hence, this book is an interesting and relevant read. Scholars working in (...) the areas of ethics, epistemology and social epistemology can greatly benefit from it. Practitioners of AI can also gain valuable insights from the study of bias. -/- In my review of the book, I provide a critical summary of Kelly's main arguments while acknowledging its fruitfulness in understanding bias. The objective of this study is to Analyze the Financial Position and Performance of the Axis and Kotak Mahindra Bank in India based on their financial characteristics. We have chosen the CAMEL model and t-test which measures the performance of bank from each of the important parameter like capital adequacy, asset quality, management efficiency, earning quality, liquidity and Sensitivity. The present study is conducted analyze the consistency of the profitability of the Axis and Kotak Mahindra bank’s. It is analyses that (...) the ratio of credit deposit is maximum of Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd and it shows efficient management of the bank. The ratio of earning per share is maximum for Axis Bank Ltd i.e. 50.28 and the ratio of return on Assets is minimum for Axis Bank Ltd. The CAMELS’ analysis and t-test concludes that there is no significance difference between the Axis and Kotak Mahindra bank’s financial performance but the Kotak Mahindra bank performance is slightly less compared with Axis Bank. Phthalic anhydride and 3-Nitro Phthalic anhydride were reacted with 2-aminomethyl benzimidazole in pyridine to give 2- (5-substituted phthalimidomethyl) bezimidazoles. These benzimidazoles were refluxed with chloroacetyl chloride in dry benzene followed by reaction with different secondary amines to give 1-(N-substituted amino acetyl)-2-(5-substituted phthalimidomethyl) benzimidazoles. Antiviral activity of these compounds was studied against Ranikhet Disease Virus (RDV) and Vaccinia Virus (VV). Some of these compounds have been found to be active against RDV.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is a new technique in marketing where the marketer tries to develop long term relationship with the customers to develop them as life time customers. This research check the impact of customer relationship management activities on bank’s customer retention in The Nainital Bank Ltd.,Vikasnagar . Today every organization is acting in a dynamic environment and in a world characterised by turbulent change and fierce competition due to technological advancement and the knowledge based economy, an organization must always ready to adapt and transform themselves so as to be able to confront the shifting needs of the new environment, more demanding customers, smarter workers, anticipating ability to changes, accelerating the development of new products, processes and services, changing technologies and customer expectations, businesses have realised the importance (...) of Customer Relationship Management in acquiring new customers, retain existing ones and maximize their lifetime value. The wide spread availability of the internet across the world has led airlines to use their corporate web-sites to bypass travel intermediaries and focus on online communication, information and transaction. The paper considers five dimensions of Web site quality-usability, web site design, service quality, information quality and enjoyment on a sample of 150 respondents from four airlines namely, Air India, Spicejet, Indigo and Jet Airways. Respondents consisted of 40 employed, 80 business men and 30 students. Overall, the majority of respondents are frequent, experienced Internet users and likely to be relatively good judges of Web quality. Analysis of results shows that customers’ priority about airlines website are changing. As the self-service, no-frills and low-cost trend for air travel has grown in recent years, so consumers have been driven less by service quality and more by easy access to good information packaged in an entertaining and fun "wrapper'. More over the airlines have pursued different strategies for their Web sites over the period of study .Air India rated badly for service quality and Jet Airways and Spice jet scored high on service and information quality. The paper suggests that careful management and selection of subjects to be placed on web site can retain the customers and reduce switching intentions. (shrink)

3, 5 dinitro benzoic acid hydrazide was prepared by the hydrazinolysis of the corresponding ethyl ester. Condensation of this hydrazide with different aromatic acids in presence of POCl3 gave 2-3, 5 dinitropheny1-5-substituted pheny1 1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles. All the final compounds were tested against Ranikhet Disease Virus (RDV). However no compound showed antiviral activity against RDV.

Modeling social interactions based on individual behavior has always been an area of interest, but prior literature generally presumes rational behavior. Thus, such models may miss out on capturing the effects of biases humans are susceptible to. This work presents a method to model egocentric bias, the real-life tendency to emphasize one's own opinion heavily when presented with multiple opinions. We use a symmetric distribution, centered at an agent's own opinion, as opposed to the Bounded Confidence (BC) model used in (...) prior work. We consider a game of iterated interactions where an agent cooperates based on its opinion about an opponent. Our model also includes the concept of domain-based self-doubt, which varies as the interaction succeeds or not. An increase in doubt makes an agent reduce its egocentricity in subsequent interactions, thus enabling the agent to learn reactively. The agent system is modeled with factions not having a single leader, to overcome some of the issues associated with leader-follower factions. We find that agents belonging to factions perform better than individual agents. We observe that an intermediate level of egocentricity helps the agent perform at its best, which concurs with conventional wisdom that neither overconfidence nor low self-esteem brings benefits. The novel depicts Jasmine’s journey of transformation from a passive, traditional girl at the mercy of fate in a village in India to an active, modern, and most importantly cross-cultural hybrid woman in America. All through the novel, her identity is transformed in line with shifts in her name from Jyoti to Jasmine to Jazzy to Jane. Accordingly, she stands (...) in-between two cultures, shuttles between identities, welds opposing identities, enters the third space and emerges as a hybrid. The present study in the light of Homi Bhabha's insights seeks to demonstrate that immigrating, experiencing displacement and in-betweenness, and being positioned in the third space pave the way for Jasmine’s becoming a hybrid and being liberated. Besides, the study is to depict by creating a hybrid character, Bharati Mukherjee, the author, alludes to her own very hybridity. -/- . (shrink)
