Effective water management is vital for sustainable agriculture. This project introduces an IoT-based, AI-driven irrigation system that optimizes valve control using real-time soil moisture data. Soil moisture sensors continuously assess root zone moisture and relay this data to an AI framework, determining precise irrigation needs. The system autonomously adjusts valves according to environmental conditions, minimizing water waste and enhancing crop hydration. Machine learning algorithms, notably the random forest algorithm, analyze soil moisture and weather variables to inform irrigation schedules.

Several decades of work in both philosophy and psychology acutely highlights our limitations as individual inquirers. One way to recognize these limitations is to defer to experts: roughly, to form one’s beliefs on the basis of expert testimony. Yet, as has become salient in the age of Brexit, Trumpist politics, and climate change denial, people are often mistrustful of experts, and unwilling to defer to them. It’s a trope of highbrow public discourse that this unwillingness is a serious pathology. But (...) to what extent is this trope accurate? Answering this requires us to settle both a normative question—under exactly what conditions ought we to defer to experts?—and an empirical question—under what conditions are people willing to defer to experts? The first question has been investigated primarily by philosophers; the second, primarily by psychologists. Yet there is little work integrating these literatures and putting together their results. The aim of this review article is to begin this task, enabling us to begin reaching conclusions about how much real practices of deference diverge from the ideal. We present an opinionated guide to relevant work from both philosophy and psychology, and note places where the literature has important gaps. (shrink)

ABSTRACT The idea that two words can be instances of the same word is a central intuition in our conception of language. This fact underlies many of the claims that we make about how we communicate, and how we understand each other. Given this, irrespective of what we think words are, it is common to think that any putative ontology of words, must be able to explain this feature of language. That is, we need to provide criteria of identity for (...) word-types which allow us to individuate words such that it can be the case that two particular word-instances are instances of the same word-type. One solution, recently further developed by Irmak, holds that words are individuated by their history. In this paper, I argue that this view either fails to account for our intuitions about word identity, or is too vague to be a plausible answer to the problem of word individuation. (shrink)

Ectogestation involves the gestation of a fetus in an ex utero environment. The possibility of this technology raises a significant question for the abortion debate: Does a woman’s right to end her pregnancy entail that she has a right to the death of the fetus when ectogestation is possible? Some have argued that it does not Mathison & Davis. Others claim that, while a woman alone does not possess an individual right to the death of the fetus, the genetic parents (...) have a collective right to its death Räsänen. In this paper, I argue that the possibility of ectogestation will radically transform the problem of abortion. The argument that I defend purports to show that, even if it is not a person, there is no right to the death of a fetus that could be safely removed from a human womb and gestated in an artificial womb, because there are competent people who are willing to care for and raise the fetus as it grows into a person. Thus, given the possibility of ectogestation, the moral status of the fetus plays no substantial role in determining whether there is a right to its death. (shrink)

Racial epithets are terms used to characterize people on the basis of their race, and are often used to harm the people that they target. But what do racial epithets mean, and how do they work to harm in the way that they do? In this essay I set out to answer these questions by offering a pragmatic view of racial epithets, while contrasting my position with Christopher Hom's semantic view.

Non-cognitivists claim that thick concepts can be disentangled into distinct descriptive and evaluative components and that since thick concepts have descriptive shape they can be mastered independently of evaluation. In Non-Cognitivism and Rule-Following, John McDowell uses Wittgenstein’s rule-following considerations to show that such a non-cognitivist view is untenable. In this paper I do several things. I describe the non-cognitivist position in its various forms and explain its driving motivations. I then explain McDowell’s argument against non-cognitivism and the Wittgensteinian considerations upon (...) which it relies, because this has been sufficiently misunderstood by critics and rarely articulated by commentators. After clarifying McDowell’s argument against non-cognitivism, I extend the analysis to show that commentators of McDowell have failed to appreciate his argument and that critical responses have been weak. I argue against three challenges posed to McDowell, and show that the case of thick concepts should lead us to reject non-cognitivism. (shrink)

Genetic testing technologies are rapidly moving from the research laboratory to the market place. Very little scholarship considers the implications of private genetic testing for a public health care system such as Canada’s. It is critical to consider how and if these tests should be marketed to, and purchased by, the public. It is also imperative to evaluate the extent to which genetic tests are or should be included in Canada’s public health care system, and the impact of allowing a (...) two-tiered system for genetic testing. A series of threshold tests are presented as ways of clarifying whether a genetic test is morally appropriate, effective and safe, efficient and appropriate for public funding and whether private purchase poses special problems and requires further regulation. These thresholds also identify the research questions around which professional, public and policy debate must be sustained: What is a morally acceptable goal for genetic services? What are the appropriate benefits? What are the risks? When is it acceptable that services are not funded under health care? And how can the harms of private access be managed? (shrink)

Even with obvious deficiencies, large prompt-commanded multimodal models are proving to be flexible cognitive tools representing an unprecedented generality. But the directness, diversity, and degree of user interaction create a distinctive “human-centred generality” (HCG), rather than a fully autonomous one. HCG implies that —for a specific user— a system is only as general as it is effective for the user’s relevant tasks and their prevalent ways of prompting. A human-centred evaluation of general-purpose AI systems therefore needs to reflect the personal (...) nature of interaction, tasks and cognition. We argue that the best way to understand these systems is as highly-coupled cognitive extenders, and to analyse the bidirectional cognitive adaptations between them and humans. In this paper, we give a formulation of HCG, as well as a high-level overview of the elements and trade-offs involved in the prompting process. We end the paper by outlining some essential research questions and suggestions for improving evaluation practices, which we envision as characteristic for the evaluation of general artificial intelligence in the future. This study is intended to assess the implementation of ‘Catch-Up Fridays’ in the Public Elementary Schools in the Division of Panabo City from an administrative perspective of three school leaders. Also, three teachers, who handled CUF in the class, were interviewed. This qualitative case study explores the implementation and provides rich, detailed data on experiences, challenges, and strategies. Analyzing administrators' insights on implementing the Catch-Up Fridays (CUFs) program highlights several key points. Successful implementation relies on comprehensive communication, adherence to guidelines, (...) and thorough preparation, ensuring all stakeholders are informed and equipped. Proper resource allocation and reallocation are essential for meeting program goals and creating a supportive learning environment. Addressing workload, engaging teachers, and prioritizing tasks enhance program sustainability and effectiveness. Effective monitoring and evaluation help identify best practices and areas for improvement. The perceived effectiveness in reading and character development boosts students' self-esteem, fosters a positive learning atmosphere, and supports struggling learners. Recognizing and adopting best practices offer actionable improvement and ensure the program remains relevant. Overall, approaches such as giving appropriate feedback, aligning objectives to the school’s Key Performance Indicator, enhancing the program through effective monitoring, balancing the program with teachers' workload contribute to holistic student development, a well-supported environment, and long-term educational success, benefiting teachers, learners, and parents. In this paper we will analyze the concept of incoherency that has been put forward by Jesper Juul in Half-Real (2005). Juul provides a paradigmatic example of an incoherency in the game Donkey Kong. The main character of the narrative, Mario, can die and subsequently reappear at the beginning of the level. However, when pressed to describe the narrative of the game, most players would not say that Mario ever died. The respawn is attributed to the game rules instead. Juul (...) calls this phenomenon an incoherency of the game’s fictional world. In this essay, I explain why Gabriel De Marco's attempts to "solve" the invalidity problem for the Zygote Argument were non-starters. The first solution he describes was originally developed by Mickelson (2012/2015) and already adopted by Mele (2013), but De Marco presents it as his own (using an idiosyncratic labelling system). De Marco's second response fails because it is grounded in a patently invalid argument. Most importantly, De Marco (like Mele before him) fails to even mention that Mickelson wasn't interested (...) in the Zygote Argument per se, nor did she have the quixotic aim of providing "correct" definitions of anachronistic jargon like 'compatibilism' and 'incompatibilism' (for reasons explained in Mickelson's 2015 critique of Vihvelin's three-fold classification). Mickelson's invalidity objection served to highlight several novel and dialectically significant lessons, such as: it is surprisingly difficult to close the "explanatory gap" between incompossibilism and the standard causal luck explanation for incompossibilism without relying upon invalid arguments or question-begging assumptions. Indeed, there appears to be no argument in the free-will literature which does so -- i.e. there appears to be NO logically viable, non-question-begging argument for incompatibilism in the free-will literature as a whole! Philosophers like De Marco don't want to "fuss" over such fundamental philosophical errors or investigate the new avenues of research that have opened up by exposing them; he suggests that no one else should fuss over such things either. This systematic literature review aims to address some critical questions in interdisciplinary STEM education. Specifically, this study endeavors to determine how STEM education has been implemented in the K-12 and higher education settings, which are the major target of this review, in the time range of 2016 to 2024. Within this time frame, I will utilize PRISMA’S systematic review procedures to conduct an analysis of peer-reviewed articles databases such as ERIC, Web of Science, Scopus, IEEE Xplore Digital Library, Science Direct (...) and Google Scholar. Articles from these databases would be analyzed through the use of Boolean oppositions of texts connected to education 5.0, STEM education as well as interdisciplinary approaches. There are tangible outcomes on student participation, improved retention, and development of timely necessary and relevant skills such as advanced ICT understands, intricate problem solving, and teamwork. Inadequate curriculum development policies, lack of curriculum policies, trained personnel and poor resource provision limited the development of the said framework. The review concludes that while interdisciplinary STEM education effectively prepares students for contemporary challenges and aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, successful implementation requires systematic institutional support and robust infrastructure. Recommendations include developing age-appropriate integrated curricula, establishing teacher collaboration networks, and conducting longitudinal research to assess long-term program impacts on student outcomes and career readiness. First, I want to shed some light on Kant's concept of personhood as rational agency, by situating it in the context of the first Critique's conception of the self as defined by its rational dispositions. I hope to suggest that this concept of personhood cannot be simply grafted onto an essentially Humean conception of the self that is inherently inimical to it, as I believe Rawls, Gewirth, and others have tried to do. This study explored stakeholders' roles, responsibilities, challenges, and insights in implementing school-based programs at Mapula National High School, Cluster XIII, Division of Davao City. This study employed a qualitative case study approach. The research delved into the participation of parents, teachers, administrators, and community members in various initiatives aimed at educational improvement. As Creswell (2012) noted, the qualitative case study is a research methodology that concentrates on a distinct phenomenon, situation, or context, defined by specific boundaries or parameters. This investigation (...) utilized semi-structured interviews to explore stakeholders' engagement with school-based programs. The following major findings revealed that active collaboration, effective communication, resource allocation, and adaptability were instrumental in sustaining projects focused on students’ development. However, issues such as communication barriers, competing priorities, and limited resources hindered progress, necessitating adaptive strategies. Parents played a pivotal role in bridging community-school relations, while teachers facilitated program delivery amidst resource constraints. The findings underscored the need for stronger partnerships among all stakeholders, fostering a collective commitment to advancing educational opportunities and enriching the school community. It can be concluded that the value of inclusive stakeholder engagement as a means of enhancing school-based programs. By prioritizing collaboration, clear communication, and strategic resource allocation, educational institutions were able to address challenges more effectively and achieve lasting improvements. ABSTRACT This study evaluated the effects of postpartum diseases and body condition score (BCS) on the reproductive performance of dairy herds. Cows were monitored during the postpartum to diagnose diseases and changes in BCS. The cows were divided into those with no disease and those with one or more diseases. The incidence of diseases, pregnancy rate (PR) at the first postpartum service, number of days open, percentage of pregnant cows at 150d, and gestational loss were analyzed. No difference was observed (...) between healthy and diseased cows in the PR at the first service or for days open. Diseased cows showed greater gestational loss and the percentage of pregnant cows at 150d postpartum was higher among healthy cows. Cows with a BCS ≥ 3.0 at prepartum had a lower PR at the first service and shorter days open. This study examined how senior high school teachers in Digos City develop their portfolios, focusing on documenting pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) and reflective practices and the relationship between these constructs and teaching experience. The study employed an embedded mixed-methods design, incorporating a quantitative survey to assess PCK, reflective practices, and qualitative focus group discussions (FGDs) to explore teachers' experiences and portfolio development strategies. The Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation, while qualitative data from FGDs were analyzed (...) thematically using Colaizzi's phenomenological method. The study identified five key themes in portfolio development: a systematic approach, reflective practice as a guiding principle, the impact of professional development, external feedback, and teaching experience. Teachers demonstrated "extensive" PCK across content, pedagogical, and curriculum knowledge. A moderate positive correlation was found between years of teaching experience and PCK. Teachers showed "extensive" reflective practices in practical experience and metacognition but only "moderately extensive" in cognitive aspects. A strong positive correlation was also found between PCK and reflective practice. The study concludes that teacher portfolios are valuable tools for professional growth when developed systematically and supported by professional development, emphasizing the importance of strengthening teachers' PCK and reflective practices through comprehensive training and fostering a collaborative environment. This essay is divided into two parts, deeply intermingled. Part I examines not only the origin of conscious experience but also how it is possible to ask of our own consciousness how it came to be. Part II examines the origin of experience itself, which soon reveals itself as the ontological question of Being. The chief premise of Part I is that symbolic communion and the categorizations of language have enabled human organisms to distinguish between themselves as actually existing entities (...) and their own immediate experience of themselves and their world. This enables them to reflect upon abstract concepts, including “self,” “experience,” and “world.” Symbolic communication and conceptualization grow out of identification, the act of first observing conscious experiencing and intimating what it is like, mimesis, a gestural protolanguage learned through imitation, and reflection, seeing oneself through the eyes of others. The step into actual intentional speech is made through self-assertion, narrative, and intersubjectivity. These three become the spiral of human cultural development that includes not only the adaptive satisfaction of our biological needs, but also the creativity of thought. With the mental-conceptual separation of subject and object – of self and world – the human ability to witness the universe (and each other) is the ground of our genuinely human quality. Consciousness gives human life its distinctively human reality. It is, therefore, one and the same ability that enables us to shape planet Earth by means of conceptual representations (rather than by means of our hands alone) while also awakening us to the significance of being. -/- Looking beyond human self-consciousness to investigate the origin and nature of awareness itself in Part 2, reductive objective materialism is found to be of little use. Direct experience also falls short in that, in order to be transformed into objective knowledge about itself, it must always be interpreted through and limited by the symbolic contexts of culture and the idiosyncratic conceptualizations of the individual. Awareness-in-itself must thus be considered ultimately unexplainable, but this may more indicate its inexpressible transcendence of all symbolic qualifiers than its nonexistence. It is suggested that awareness is not “self-aware” (as in deity) but is instead unknowing yet identical with the only true universal: the impetus of creative unfolding. Our human knowledge, as an expression of this unfolding, is seen to emerge from our conscious experiencing and, in turn, to have the power – and enormous responsibility – of directing that experience. Our underlying symbolic worldviews are found to be autopoietic: They limit or open our conscious experience, which, in turn, confirms those worldview expectations. As we explore a future of unforeseeable technological breakthroughs on an ailing planet who patiently copes with our “success,” truly vital decisions about the nature, meaning, extent, and future of conscious experience will have to be made. This study utilized a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design. Using surveys, researchers gathered quantitative information from teachers and school heads and qualitative data through interviews. Researchers collected quantitative and qualitative data from school heads and teachers through surveys and interviews. The data was analyzed through descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and thematic analysis. The study highlights the essential influence of technology in creating a flexible framework for school management practices. This systematic literature review generally aims to determine the impact of Education 5.0 on college educators. Specifically, it sought to evaluate the influence of advanced digital technologies when integrated into college teaching, identify the global challenges and benefits of Education 5.0, and highlight gaps in long-term research on its effects on educators' professional growth and adaptation. This study utilized the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). This study investigated the experiences, coping mechanisms, and beneficial insights of principals in the Division of Davao del Norte, Philippines, who participated in strategic planning for School Improvement Plans (SIPs). The study utilized a phenomenological approach, employing purposive sampling to select a sample of seven principals from public schools in Davao del Norte. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and analyzed using a phenomenological method. The study's findings revealed that the principals' experiences with strategic planning for SIPs were characterized by (...) collaboration and communication, emotional management, and a focus on teacher professional development. However, they also encountered difficulties, including limited resources and a lack of support. The study concluded that the findings had significant implications for school administrators, policymakers, and researchers, highlighting the need for further research and support in strategic planning for SIPs. This study assessed the nutritional composition of stiff porridge made from carrots and eggplant flour and its nutritional benefit to elderly. The result revealed that significant differences existed in the proximate, mineral, vitamin and sensory attributes of the samples with moisture content of the stiff porridge ranging from 33.78 to 35.00%. Sample A (Stiff porridge from 100% eggplant) had the highest moisture content (38.00%) whereas sample C (Stiff porridge from 50% eggplant and 50% carrot) had the lowest moisture. Sample A (...) (Stiff porridge from 100% eggplant) had the highest the calcium content (50.00%), Sample A (Stiff porridge from 100% eggplant) had the highest potassium (129.14 mg/100g) while sample C (Stiff porridge from 50% eggplant and 50% carrot) had the lowest value of potassium (98.15 mg/100g). However, Sample C (Stiff porridge from 50% eggplant and 50% carrot) had the highest mean score for general acceptability (7.20) whereas sample A (Stiff porridge from 100% eggplant) had the least mean score (6.00). This study concluded that the potentials of eggplant and carrot as useful alternatives in the production of stiff porridge for healthy family feeding in Umuahia North Local Government Area in Abia State. Based on this study, the following recommendations are made: Utilization of 100% eggplant in stiff porridge production is recommended especially to individuals that are mineral deficient since it had increased mineral content, in addition to proximate composition. The stiff porridges should not be kept for quite long before consumption since it possesses high moisture. Sensitization of the general populace on the potentials of eggplant and carrot blends in the production of stiff porridge will contribute to enhancing their utilization and health benefits especially to the elderly. The utilization of machine learning optimization methods is of utmost importance in the identification of liver tumors, attracting considerable interest in this domain. After obtaining a liver tissue sample, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), and ultrasonography (US) are used as imaging techniques to separate the tumor and liver. Nevertheless, the utilization of shades of gray and forms is insufficient for achieving accurate segmentation in computed abdominal CT images, mostly because of the presence of overlapping intensities and the unpredictable (...) placements and shapes of soft tissues. The results demonstrate that our proposed technique outperforms previous state-of-the-art models in terms of overall accuracy in tumor identification. The 2D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model had a remarkable training accuracy of 96.47%, while the auto-encoder network closely followed with an accuracy of 95.63%. In addition, the 2D CNN network exhibited an impressive average recall rate of 95%, beating the auto-encoder network's rate of 94%. The ROC curve regions for both networks exhibited remarkable performance, with values ranging from 0.99 to 1. Out of the many machine learning approaches used, the ResUNet had the least accurate results, while the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) achieved the greatest accuracy rate of 86%. Conversely, the MLP demonstrated a paltry accuracy rate of about 28%. The statistical tests conducted in this study indicated a significant difference (p-value < 0.05) between the suggested approach and many existing machine learning algorithms. (shrink)

The most significant and pervasive issue in our society is crime. Rising crime rates contribute to an unbalanced societal makeup within a nation. Over the past few years, machine learning techniques have been deployed to scrutinize crime data, offering valuable insights for forecasting and thwarting forthcoming criminal activities. In this paper, crime prediction and forecasting using MLP (Multi-Layer Perceptron) & K-Means clustering algorithms, presents a novel approach that combines machine learning and deep learning techniques to achieve precise crime predictions. MLP (...) is proposed to harness their complementary capabilities in identifying crime patterns and modeling sequential data. The procedure begins by gathering and preparing a wide range of crime data, which encompasses crime reports and demographic data. By leveraging a comprehensive dataset that encompasses factors such as demographics, socio-economic conditions, and historical crime records, and splitting it into training and testing sets. MLP model is implemented and trained to classify whether a crime occurs or not, while evaluation metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score are employed to assess their performance. In 1951 John Rawls expressed these convictions about the fundamental issues in metaethics: [T]he objectivity or the subjectivity of moral knowledge turns, not on the question whether ideal value entities exist or whether moral judgments are caused by emotions or whether there is a variety of moral codes the world over, but simply on the question: does there exist a reasonable method for validating and invalidating given or proposed moral rules and those decisions made on the basis of them? For (...) to say of scientific knowledge that it is objective is to say that the propositions expressed therein may be evidenced to be true by a reasonable and reliable method, that is, by the rules and procedures of what we may call "inductive logic"; and, similarly, to establish the objectivity of moral rules, and the decisions based upon them, we must exhibit the decision procedure, which can be shown to be both reasonable and reliable, at least in some cases, for deciding between moral rules and lines of conduct consequent to them.1 In this passage Rawls reconfigured the issue of moral objectivity and so reoriented the practice of metaethics from linguistic analysis to rational methodology. In so doing, his work has provided inspiration to philosophers as disparate in normative views as Thomas Nagel,2 Richard Brandt3, Alan Gewirth4, and David Gauthier.5 Rawls replaced the Moorean question, Do moral terms refer? with the Rawlsian question, Can moral judgments be the outcome of a rational and reliable procedure? He later gave a resoundingly positive answer to this question6 and later still, a more tentative one.7 Rawls' considered qualification of his earlier enthusiasm about the extent to which moral philosophy could be "part of the theory of rational choice"8 is a tribute to the seriousness with which he took his critics' objections. I was quite excited when I first read Restall and Russell’s (2010) paper. For two reasons. First, because the paper provides rigorous formulations and formal proofs of implication barrier theses, namely “theses [which] deny that one can derive sentences of one type from sentences of another”. Second (and primarily), because the paper proves a general theorem, the Barrier Construction Theorem, which unifies implication barrier theses concerning four topics: generality, necessity, time, and normativity. After thinking about the paper, I am satisfied (...) with its treatment of the first three topics, namely generality, necessity, and time. But I am not satisfied with its treatment of normativity, so my comments are exclusively on that topic. (shrink)

In this paper, we investigated multiple machine learning classifiers which are, Multinomial Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machine, Decision Tree, K Nearest Neighbors, and Random Forest in a text classification problem. The data we used contains real and fake job posts. We cleaned and pre-processed our data, then we applied TF-IDF for feature extraction. After we implemented the classifiers, we trained and evaluated them. Evaluation metrics used are precision, recall, f-measure, and accuracy. The hypothesis that approaches the use of humour throughout the ages as something approximating a coping mechanism, has been subject to a long-standing discussion in what is known as humour studies. In this particular essay, by looking through the spectacles of one of the discipline’s theories, called relief theory, I will attempt to find out whether humour was used to lighten the weight of oppression in Imperial Rome, and can thus corroborate this hypothesis.

Most of the industries use wireless networks for communicating information and data, due to high cable cost. Since, the wireless networks are insecure, it is essential to secure the critical information and data during transmission. The data that transmitted is intercepted by eavesdropper can be predicted by secrecy capacity. The secrecy capacity is the difference between channel capacity of main (...) link and wiretap link of wireless transmission. When the secrecy capacity gets fades, then it is known that transmitted data is intercepted. In the event, of applying optimal sensor scheduling scheme a sensor with highest secrecy capacity is chosen and data is transmitted. It is followed with cooperative localization algorithm to enhance nodes, predict and maintain power of each sensor nodes. Through localization algorithm best sensor nodes are get predicted for transmission. Moreover, RC4 encryption and decryption algorithm is enhanced for data while transmission. This will enable protection to data to an extent. A remarkable feature of the philosophical work on conspiracy theory theory has been that most philosophers agree there is nothing inherently problematic about conspiracy theories (AKA the thesis of particularism). Recent work, however, has challenged this consensus view, arguing that there really is something epistemically wrong with conspiracy theorising (AKA generalism). Are particularism and generalism incompatible? By looking at just how much particularists and generalists might have to give away to make their theoretical viewpoints compatible, I will argue that particularists (...) can accept many of the concerns that motivate generalism because generalism can never be about ‘all’ conspiracy theories without being either ahistorical or apolitical. In the end generalist critiques are best seen as useful guidelines or considerations for the appraising of particular conspiracy theories. (shrink)

Conspiracy theories and conspiracy theorists have been accused of a great many sins, but are the conspiracy theories conspiracy theorists believe epistemically problematic? Well, according to some recent work, yes, they are. Yet a number of other philosophers like Brian L. Keeley, Charles Pigden, Kurtis Hagen, Lee Basham, and the like have argued ‘No!’ I will argue that there are features of certain conspiracy theories which license suspicion of such theories. I will also argue that these features only license a (...) limited suspicion of these conspiracy theories, and thus we need to be careful about generalising from such suspicions to a view of the warrant of conspiracy theories more generally. To understand why, we need to get to the bottom of what exactly makes us suspicious of certain conspiracy theories, and how being suspicious of a conspiracy theory does not always tell us anything about how likely the theory in question is to be false. In much of the current academic and public discussion, conspiracy theories are portrayed as a negative phenomenon, linked to misinformation, mistrust in experts and institutions, and political propaganda. Rather surprisingly, however, philosophers working on this topic have been reluctant to incorporate a negatively evaluative aspect when either analyzing or engineering the concept conspiracy theory. In this paper, we present empirical data on the nature of the concept conspiracy theory from five studies designed to test the existence, prevalence and exact form (...) of an evaluative dimension to the ordinary concept conspiracy theory. These results reveal that, while there is a descriptive concept of conspiracy theory, the predominant use of conspiracy theory is deeply evaluative, encoding information about epistemic deficiency and often also derogatory and disparaging information. On the basis of these results, we present a new strategy for engineering conspiracy theory to promote theoretical investigations and institutional discussions of this phenomenon. We argue for engineering conspiracy theory to encode an epistemic evaluation, and to introduce a descriptive expression—such as ‘conspiratorial explanation’—to refer to the purely descriptive concept conspiracy theory. It unveils an intuitable dimension to represent the epistemolog’s paradigm and limitations. Deriving from the inherent relation between epistemology and ontology, the retrospection of the epistemology’s ontological origin can be actualized by locating or grasping the epistemological first person’s ontological essence. Hence, the illusional and frail essence of the ontology behind this epistemology would be uncovered. (...) “Person” is not a stable unit in the ontological world, since the application of this unit stimulates the development of the operating style of the epistemology which relies on the supplement of paradox. After this study that intends to get the epistemological and ontological truth of the current using nominative, the new era of one or more unknown but solid epistemology and its ontology will be gradually recognized. This article compares James M. Buchanan's and John Rawls's theories of democratic governance. In particular it compares their positions on the characteristics of a legitimate social contract. Where Buchanan argues that additional police force can be used to quell political demonstrations, Rawls argues for a social contract that meets the difference principle.
