  2. Sensory Substitution is Substitution.Jean-Rémy Martin & François Le Corre - 2015 - Mind and Language 30 (2):209-233.
Sensory substitution devices make use of one substituting modality to get access to environmental information normally accessed through another modality . Based on behavioural and neuroimaging data, some authors have claimed that using a vision-substituting device results in visual perception. Reviewing these data, we contend that this claim is untenable. We argue that the kind of information processed by a SSD is metamodal, so that it can be accessed through any sensory modality and that the phenomenology associated with the use (...)

  7. How to Balance Lives and Livelihoods in a Pandemic.Matthew D. Oxford University Press. pp. 189-209.
Control measures, such as “lockdowns”, have been widely used to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic. Under some conditions, they prevent illness and save lives. But they also exact an economic toll. How should we balance the impact of such policies on individual lives and livelihoods (and other dimensions of concern) to determine which is best? A widely used method of policy evaluation, benefit–cost analysis (BCA), answers these questions by converting all the effects of a policy into monetary equivalents and then summing (...)

Insight into the synthesis of warfarin and its promiscuous derivatives.Khaled Sekkoum - 2024 - Mediterranean Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences 4 (4):68-96.
Warfarin is the most widely used anticoagulant drug which reduces the risk of blood clots forming. This review aims to highlight the significant research on the synthesis of warfarin and its derivatives using numerous methods such as Michael reactions, green enantioselective, one-pot condensation, and catalytic synthesis. The synthesis of warfarin derivatives was discussed since they have proven to have higher biological activity than warfarin itself. Further, this review was carried out to figure out the shortcomings in the synthesis methods and (...)

Effect of lignin-rich Vitex negundo leaf extract on antioxidant, thrombolytic, antiproliferative, antidepressant, and cytotoxic activities in mice.Abul Kalam Azad - 2024 - Mediterranean Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences 4 (4):22-32.
In several counties, Vitex negundo have been claimed to have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant activities. It's frequently used in folk medicine for the treatment of various pain disorders. The methanol extract of Vitex negundo leaves was studied for its biological effects. To investigate different biological exertions of the methanol extract of Vitex negundo, the leaf extracts were obtained with pure methanol. In-vitro anti-oxidant activity was resolved using a DPPH radical scavenging assay. A clot lysis test was used to assess (...)

  15. Role of Milk in Children’s Growth and in Preserving their Health.Molnár Judit - manuscript
Milk contains a prominently beneficial nutritional value. Amino acids, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and also minerals can be found in it. Therefore, consuming it has an important role in children’s diet. Calcium is one of its most significant components, which is indispensable for bones and teeth, and for normal activity of muscle and nervous system, and also for controlling clotting processes. This manuscript reviews the key nutritional values of milk, and then determines some consumption recommendations for milk and dairy products, which (...)

In their article “Out of nowhere: thought insertion, ownership and context-integration”, Jean-Remy Martin & Elisabeth Pacherie criticize the standard approach to thought insertion. However, their criticism is based on a misunderstanding of what the standard approach actually claims. By clarifying the notions ‘sense of ownership’ and ‘sense of agency’, I show that Martin & Pacherie’s own approach can be construed as a refined version of the standard approach.

This paper defends the action-theory of the Will, according to which willing G is doing F (F≠G) in order to make G happen. In a nutshell, willing something is doing something else in order to bring about what we want. -/- I argue that only the action-theory can reconcile two essential features of the Will. (i) its EFFECTIVITY: willing is closer to acting than desiring. (ii) its FALLIBILITY: one might want something in vain. The action-theory of the will explains EFFECTIVITY (...)
