Traditional Russian ideas concerning fairness, justice and rights are directly connected with state-paternalistic moods in the society. In many respects they have caused specificity and reforming rates of the country. These ideas are based on religious and historical distinctive features. Ruling power is the main source regulating adoption of fair decisions. One of the supposed conditions of civil society creation is the formation of idea of civil society as a fair society capable to generate a community of socially responsible persons. |

В статье рассмотрены теоретические и методологические вопросы изучения культурного ландшафта текстологическими методами. Автор указывает, что концепция семиосферы Ю.М. Лотмана существенно расширяет возможности в области изучения не только культуры, но и преображенного ею географического пространства - культурного ландшафта. В контексте концепции «презумпции текстуальности» культурный ландшафт представлен в качестве идеального объекта изучения. |

This paper analyzes the concept of biodiversity in conservation biology and assesses potential methods for its measurement. |

Scientists often collect (kill) organisms in pursuit of human knowledge. When is such killing morally permissible? I explore this question with particular reference to ornithology and against the background of animal liberation ethics and a land ethic, especially Mary Anne Warren’s account that finds the two ethics complementary. I argue that the ethical theories offered provide insufficient guidance. As a step toward the resolution of this serious problem, I offer a set of criteria to determine when collecting is morally permissible. |

The study of biodiversity spans many disciplines and includes data pertaining to species distributions and abundances, genetic sequences, trait measurements, and ecological niches, complemented by information on collection and measurement protocols.
