Today lingers a mistaken belief, which claims, that myth is obsolete and is only relevant to bored historians. Nothing could be more wrong. In this paper the author will explain, what myth is, what meaning it has and why mythical thinking is a current and common phenomenon. The paper focuses on ideas of Kołakowski and Blumenberg, at the same time placing emphasis on the state and related dangers of modern myth. In the course of this work, the author will prove (...) that myth is an essential part of human cognition and is a medium for meaning and for moral values. Rationality not only does not exclude mythical thinking, but, in a way, is its component. (shrink)

Turbulent times are taking its toll on every essential aspect of social life, like education, school and teachers. We do not know what future will bring; our educational actions are affected by uncertainty. Who the teacher should be in restless times? How to bring up and educate, not knowing the potential problems of tomorrow? Finally, how to prepare a student, for our ever-shifting reality? The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the condition of the teacher in the changing world (...) and attempt to find qualities and skills, which may transpire to be useful in the society of the future. Particular attention is given to the role model of the philosopher Socrates, as the groundwork for moral actions of the teacher. (shrink)

Anger occupies a peculiar place in the context of human experience. Although it is a constant phenomenon in our everyday reality, we cannot actually say much about it. However, can we reduce anger to just an elusive emotion or even a sentiment nurtured in our consciousness? Our ancestors believed anger to be a powerful force, capable of taking control over us, without our consent. Can we still perceive anger that way? Research in psychology precisely explains the results of anger but (...) rarely is interested in how it exists and how it begins. Is it only a content of our consciousness or something more? What are its sources? In this paper the author will explain, using mainly the concepts of Seneca and M. Nussbaum, how anger occurs, what anger is and how unique it is to human condition. (shrink)
