As climate change accelerates, so too does the risk of wildfires. Rising temperatures and prolonged droughts have transformed many landscapes into highly flammable environments. As climate change accelerates, its impacts are hitting mountain regions especially hard [2-4]. In a study spanning ten mountain regions in Central and East Africa, researchers documented how 1,500 smallholder farmers perceive and respond to climatic shifts that threaten their livelihoods and ecosystems [5].

Adaptive management (AM)—an approach that incorporates learning into decision-making—has long been recognized for its potential in conservation but remains underutilized due to the complexity of real-world ecological systems [2,3]. [4] introduced a simulation-based approach to AM, integrating management strategy evaluation (MSE), a tool widely applied in fisheries, to inform recovery strategies for the endangered hihi (Notiomystis cincta), a forest bird endemic to Aotearoa-New Zealand.
