Scientific fields frequently need to exchange data to advance their own inquiries. Data unification is the process of stabilizing these forms of interfield data exchange. I present an account of the epistemic structure of data unification, drawing on case studies from model-based cognitive neuroscience (MBCN). MBCN is distinctive because it shows that modeling practices play an essential role in mediating these data exchanges. Models often serve as interfield evidential integrators, and models built for this purpose have their own representational and (...) inferential functions. This paper examines two main advancements in artificial intelligence for OCT imaging monitoring such as Google Health's Retinal Disease Predictor and AI (...) systems used to evaluate cardiovascular risks. This research develops HealthSight AI which combines deep learning algorithms with real-time predictive analytics to detect multiple diseases in healthcare. Medical studies demonstrate how AI-enhanced OCT technology can transform preventive healthcare delivery through its clinical implementations. The integration of AI in OCT imaging holds vast prospective advantages yet operational hurdles stem from ethical matters and system adherence needs together with healthcare structure implementation barriers. This study aims to determine the two emotion regulation strategies—cognitive reappraisal or expressive suppression—used by pre-service teachers enrolled in Philippine Normal University, and examine its relationship with their mental well-being and interpersonal relationships. This study utilized quantitative correlational research design by administering an online survey that contains three questionnaires: Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) to determine what emotion regulation strategy is frequently used, Warwick-Edinburg Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMWBS) to determine the state of their well-being, and the Functional Idiographic Assessment Template-Questionnaire-Short Form (...) (FIAT-Q—SF) to determine their levels of interpersonal relationship and functioning problems. The results of this study shows that frequent use of expressive suppression leads to lower levels of mental well-being and higher levels of interpersonal relationships and functioning problems, while more frequent use of cognitive reappraisal results in higher levels of mental well-being, but shows no significance or causation to interpersonal relationship and functioning problems. It can be concluded that the majority of pre-service teachers use cognitive reappraisal as their emotion regulation strategy more frequently as it was found to be significantly associated with their mental well-being levels, but was insignificant in producing interpersonal relationship difficulties. Furthermore, expressive suppression displayed more respondents with severe levels of interpersonal relationship difficulties than those who more frequently use cognitive reappraisal. Artificial intelligence systems increasingly mediate decisions in domains from healthcare and education to law enforcement, but they often inherit historical biases. This paper examines how AI can reproduce and even amplify discrimination at the intersection of transgender identity and neurodivergence. Drawing on evidence that transgender individuals exhibit higher rates of neurodivergence (Pasterski et al. in Arch Sex Behav 43:387–393, 2014) and on the historical pathologization of both identities (Conrad and Schneider in Deviance and medicalization: from badness to sickness, Temple University (...) Press, Philadelphia, 1992), I focus on two domains, healthcare and language processing, to illustrate how choices in data collection, model training, and algorithm design can perpetuate harmful biases. I also evaluate restrictive state policies as exemplified by the U.S. executive order “Defending Women…” (Trump Executive Order. Defending women from gender ideology extremism and restoring biological truth to the federal government. 2025a) while exploring how regulatory frameworks may complicate efforts toward inclusive AI design. I conclude with technical and policy recommendations intended to promote fairness while acknowledging the potential benefits and risks of AI systems, and suggest avenues for future research. Discussions of whistleblowing and employee loyalty usually assume either that the concept of loyalty is irrelevant to the issue or, more commonly, that whistleblowing involves a moral choice in which the loyalty that an employee owes an employer comes to be pitted against the employee''s responsibility to serve public interest. I argue that both these views are mistaken and propose a third view which sees whistleblowing as entirely compatible with employee loyalty.

When natural selection theory was presented, much active philosophical debate, in which Darwin himself participated, centered on its hypothetical nature, its explanatory power, and Darwin's methodology. Upon first examination, Darwin's support of his theory seems to consist of a set of claims pertaining to various aspects of explanatory success. I analyze the support of his method and theory given in the Origin of Species and private correspondence, and conclude that an interpretation focusing on the explanatory strengths of natural selection theory (...) accurately reflects neither Darwin's own self-consciously held views, nor the nature of his support. For centuries, philosophers and theologians debated how to reconcile the existence of an all-powerful, all-loving, and ever-present God with the problem of evil. However, the question of why the righteous suffer remains unanswered. Given the omnipresence of God, one wonders why the sufferers experience what seems like God’s absence in their adversity. This study presents a theodicy of narrative analytic theology because the experiences of the saints of old compel us to rethink our approach to the problem of evil from (...) the ‘God’s-eye view’ to the experiential and existential worries of the sufferer. The study looks at the story of Job and Daniel and his friends in Babylon. The narrative theodicy approach helps us understand why the righteous never denounced God in the Old Testament. The New Testament, in line with the Old Testament, reveals a suffering motif of the saints, which includes participation in the atoning work of Christ and the purification of the souls of the sufferer. Nevertheless, it seems some evils are pointless. The sufferers do not see their suffering as a punishment or a weakness from God but as a distraction and a test to perfect their covenantal relationship with the Triune. This study used the online game Kahoot to address the spelling problems of the 40 Grade 10 students in one of the public high schools in Ozamiz City enrolled during the school year 2023-2024. A pretest with 50 spelling words was administered to the class. Using a one-group, quasi-experimental pretest-posttest approach, this study assessed the impact of the Kahoot intervention on students' spelling proficiency. After the pretest, the teacher implemented nine sessions using Kahoot as the main instrument to teach spelling. (...) This was followed by a post-test with the exact 50 spelling words. In the pretest, none of the students reached a passing score of 38. After implementing the intervention, over half of the class scored 31 to 50. The study found that the online game Kahoot effectively enhanced the spelling skills of Grade 10 students, with respondents expressing positive perceptions of its ease, improvement, ability, motivation, and concentration. Kahoot provided an enjoyable learning approach, making it a helpful tool. The students also strongly agreed that using the game was easy, improved spelling, enhanced spelling ability, motivated them to spell, and increased concentration in spelling. Even with obvious deficiencies, large prompt-commanded multimodal models are proving to be flexible cognitive tools representing an unprecedented generality. But the directness, diversity, and degree of user interaction create a distinctive “human-centred generality” (HCG), rather than a fully autonomous one. HCG implies that —for a specific user— a system is only as general as it is effective for the user’s relevant tasks and their prevalent ways of prompting. A human-centred evaluation of general-purpose AI systems therefore needs to reflect the personal (...) nature of interaction, tasks and cognition. We argue that the best way to understand these systems is as highly-coupled cognitive extenders, and to analyse the bidirectional cognitive adaptations between them and humans. In this paper, we give a formulation of HCG, as well as a high-level overview of the elements and trade-offs involved in the prompting process. We end the paper by outlining some essential research questions and suggestions for improving evaluation practices, which we envision as characteristic for the evaluation of general artificial intelligence in the future. The overuse of social media, including the growing mistrust of mainstream news outlets has impacted the increasing influence of online disinformation. Social media has been a powerful tool in Philippine elections because of social media algorithms used by political parties to deploy fake news and damage their rivals. Political fake news on social media began last 2016 and became rampant in the 2022 presidential election when the candidates for the presidency were all victims of trolling. Mainstream media debunked fake news (...) but because of political partisanship, the effort has been useless due to different political beliefs and parties. The methodology involves content analysis to systematically examine social media posts related to political disinformation during the 2022 presidential election specifically focused on identifying two reactions, the emotion-driven and reason-based comments. Most of the comments were emotional and contained sarcasm, threats, slander, and mockery. People’s logical thought processes are influenced by their emotions. Users are frequently looking for information to confirm their existing views and reject or ignore information that contradicts them or is biased in favor of one political party over another. Educating the critical analysis key to both students and social media users is one of the advocacies to avoid spreading fake news in the next generations. In conclusion, emotional responses, such as anger and sarcasm, dominated the discourse, overshadowing reasoned discussions. Media mistrust and political partisanship shaped users’ reactions, leading to reject the fact-checked information especially when it conflicted with their political beliefs. (shrink)

This study addressed the Buy Now, Pay Later: Shopee Online Store Users Experiences on Shopee Pay Later Feature (Spay Later). The research investigated the users’ experiences using the Spay Later feature, specifically user satisfaction, convenience, financial behavior, and challenges faced. While some of the studies explored only the positive and negative impacts of the feature, there are gaps that the other studies have not identified. This study addressed the overall experience of Spay Later users, an area not fully covered in (...) previous studies. It utilized a phenomenological study approach under a qualitative method. The participants of the study were chosen through a judgmental sampling approach, consisting of ten (10) spay later user with five thousand (5,000) pesos credit limit and a gold/platinum level. Furthermore, the researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. The results indicated that the Spay Later feature is flexible and convenient. In conclusion, the Spay Later feature positively impacted the users’ experiences, it helped the users to access their needs during financial constraints and improve their budgeting skills. This study suggests to the existing and future users to moderately use the feature and apply the decision-making process effectively in every transaction. (shrink)

This study compares the budgeting strategies of single-income and dual-income households in selected barangays in Balayan. Using a quantitative comparative research design and purposive sampling, the study surveyed 196 single income and 196 dual-income households, all of which own a home, have two children enrolled in public school (from elementary to senior high school), and earn a monthly salary ranging from Php 10,957 to Php 21,914. Data were collected through face-to-face surveys and analyzed using statistical methods. The findings reveal no (...) significant difference in budgeting strategies between two household types, although educational attainment and monthly income do influence financial management. The study proposes an action plan to improve budgeting practices, focusing on financial literacy, income and expense management, and the establishment of an emergency fund. This study investigated the experiences and insights of employees and clients regarding the top operational practices of health and beauty clinics, specifically in terms of service quality and overall performance. It explored the best operational practices of three (3) selected health and beauty clinics located in Balayan, Batangas, each of which has been established for more than five (5) years. A multiple case study approach was employed using a qualitative research method. The study consisted of nine (9) participants, categorized into (...) three (3) groups: clients, employees, and managers. Participants were selected through judgmental sampling, a type of non-probability sampling. To gather relevant data, the researchers conducted semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. The findings revealed that each of the selected health and beauty clinics offers unique service quality and operational practices to satisfy their customers. This study investigates the impact of the ENRICH strategy on improving reading comprehension scores among Grade 11 students. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design, the study was conducted in three phases. In Phase 1, spanning days 1 to 6, 36 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students from Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc. engaged with six literary pieces, reading one piece per day, followed by an assessment to measure comprehension. Phase 2, occurring on days 7 and 8, involved re-reading the same literary (...) pieces, with a second round of assessments to reinforce understanding. In the final phase, on day 9, students completed a third assessment after a final review of the texts. Data analysis revealed statistically significant improvements across the three phases, underscoring the effectiveness of repetitive reading in enhancing long-term comprehension. The findings suggest that the ENRICH strategy can effectively aid students in improving their reading comprehension, which may contribute to better academic performance, heightened reading confidence, and a more positive attitude towards learning. Based on these results, the study advocates for the ENRICH strategy as a valuable tool for bolstering reading comprehension, particularly for students struggling with complex texts. Additionally, it recommends the integration of digital tools and interactive methods to sustain engagement and further enhance reading skills. Social media platforms serve as convenient tools for students to learn, share, and exchange information about Philippine history, providing tangible information that is beneficial to their learning progress. However, online circulation of fake news, misinformation, and biased interpretations continuously increases, threatening students’ learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand the role of social media platforms in enhancing the historical consciousness of future Social Studies educators at Immaculate Conception College of Balayan Inc. Within the framework of the qualitative (...) method, the researchers utilized a descriptive design to explore students’ preferred social media platforms, how they enhance their Philippine historical consciousness, and how they address these challenges through the use of self-created and open-ended questions. Using a purposive sampling technique, which falls under the non-probability sampling method, the researchers selected ten (10) participants from each grade level. Additionally, thematic analysis revealed challenges faced by the students while using social media platforms, including difficulties in verifying sources, a lack of critical thinking development, and the influence of biased interpretations. The study identifies strategies to overcome the negative roles of social media, including media literacy education using fact- checking tools and collaborative efforts. In conclusion, it can facilitate the creation of social media pages ‘Journey through Time’ located in Facebook application that serve as reliable source of factual historical information while minimizing the spread of misinformation. The rise of 24-hour retail stores in urban and semi-urban areas reflects the growing demand for convenience. This study examines the challenges and opportunities faced by these establishments in Batangas, Philippines, using a qualitative case study approach. Semi-structured interviews with store owners and employees reveal key operational, logistical, and regulatory difficulties. Operational challenges include inventory mismanagement, staffing shortages, and fluctuating sales. Poor stock rotation and inaccurate demand forecasting result in expired products and financial losses. Staffing, particularly for night shifts, is (...) problematic due to high turnover and scheduling conflicts, affecting service quality. Seasonal demand fluctuations add further strain, making revenue unpredictable while operational costs remain fixed. Logistical challenges involve supply chain inefficiencies, security concerns, and inventory shortages. Dependence on external suppliers often leads to delivery delays, while theft and vandalism risks require improved security measures. Regulatory compliance adds complexity, particularly for small businesses struggling with labor laws, fair compensation, and workplace safety. Despite these challenges, opportunities for growth exist. The 24-hour model attracts customers with non-traditional schedules, such as students and night-shift workers. Personalized customer service, loyalty programs, and targeted promotions enhance engagement and retention. Technological innovations, such as automated inventory systems and digital payments, improve efficiency. To remain competitive, stores must improve inventory management, adopt flexible staffing strategies, strengthen supply chain partnerships, and enhance security. This study is intended to use Scientific Comic (SciCom) Strips as an intervention to improve vocabulary levels and enhance the understanding of grade six learners in a science context. The researchers utilized a quantitative method using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-post-test. Additionally, purposive sampling technique was utilized to identify the participants and the data gathered from their pre-test and post-test were treated using a t-test. The findings revealed that the mean of pretest and post-test in the conceptual function (...) is 3.86 along with standard deviation of 1.839 and 9.67 along with standard deviation of .756. Furthermore, the mean difference of the pretest and post-test is -5.81 and a mean percentage score of 38.61% and 96.67% while the mean of pretest and post-test in the operational function is 2.91 along with standard deviation of 1.653 and 9.81 along with standard deviation of.668. Furthermore, the mean difference of the pretest and post-test is -7.000 and a mean percentage score of 28.06% and 96.06%. It means that the scientific comic strips magazine is effective in improving vocabulary level of grade 6 learners. The illustrations and contextualized dialogues helped the pupils understand the concept and unlock scientific vocabulary difficulties. Moreover, it developed the grade 6 learners’ conceptual and operational ideologies. İt can be concluded that the intervention material utilized is effective since the post-test mean is greater than the pretest mean. Moreover, the material is an efficient springboard to unlock scientific terminologies and understand it conceptually and operationally. This study examines the different issues related to employee professionalism that HR managers face and its effects on workplace dynamics. It uses a multiple case study design under the qualitative approach. The population of this study includes five (5) human resource managers from medium-large private companies in the First District of Batangas, with a work period of more than five years. The sampling method of this study is purposive or judgmental sampling, and a semi-structured interview is used as a tool (...) for data collection. The data were analyzed using cross-case analysis. The results of this study indicate that issues on professionalism among employees often lead to employee disengagement, a toxic working environment, and mental health issues that hinder employee performance and productivity. In addition, unprofessional behaviors also affect team performance and efficiency. It puts the company at risk by damaging its reputation, which could lead to a loss of business. Furthermore, the study’s findings show that these issues can be improved and maintained through several strategies. Finally, the results of this study suggest that HR managers must solve this problem with regards to employee professionalism by implementing strategies that cultivate collaboration, unity, and an environment that fosters a culture of accountability and respect. Recognition plays an important role in the employee’s job satisfaction and performance, yet many employees remain unnoticed for their hard work, effort and contributions. This study investigates the consequences of unrecognized efforts on the job satisfaction of Traffic Management Group (TMG) employees in the Municipality of Lemery, Batangas. Through qualitative method and case study approach, a semi-structured interviews were conducted with selected TMG employees to explore their experiences and perceptions about their experiences of lack of recognition at work. The thematic (...) analysis revealed that TMG employees often experience frustration, burnout, and decreased motivation due to a lack of acknowledgment for their efforts. The key issues identified include unpaid overtime, handling emergencies without proper resources, and taking on responsibilities beyond their job scope without recognition. And the findings indicate that insufficient recognition contributes to emotional exhaustion, reduced morale, and decreased job performance. This study underscores the need for a structured employee recognition program to improve job satisfaction and workplace morale. This study explores the socio-economic and psychological factors that shape clothing consumption patterns among female undergraduate students at the University of Uyo, Nigeria. While existing research has extensively examined clothing preferences in various global contexts, limited attention has been given to the unique dynamics between financial constraints and psychological motivations in low-resource settings, particularly within Nigeria. Adopting a descriptive survey design, data were gathered from 389 respondents using a structured questionnaire. These findings offer valuable implications for stakeholders, including retailers, policymakers, and educators, by emphasizing the need for interventions that encourage affordable and sustainable fashion, foster financial literacy, and address the psychological effects of clothing consumption. Among moral philosophers, general disapproval of genetic enhancement has in recent years given way to the view that the permissibility of a eugenic policy depends only on its particular features. Buchanan, Brock, Daniels, and Wikler have extensively defended such a view. However, while these authors go so far as to argue that there are conditions under which parents are not only permitted but also obligated to procure genetic treatments for their intended child, they stop short of arguing that there are (...) conditions under which parents are required to procure enhancements. By contrast, David Heyd argues that parents are required to procure treatments or enhancements for their future child, but only if the intervention would not alter the future child’s personal identity. In this paper I take the case for genetic enhancement a step further by arguing that there are conditions under which parents are morally required to procure genetic interventions for their intended child, regardless of whether the intervention is a treatment or an enhancement, and regardless of whether it would alter the child’s personal identity. Although Paul Churchland and Jerry Fodor both subscribe to the so-called theory-theory– the theory that folk psychology (FP) is an empirical theory of behavior – they disagree strongly about FP’s fate. Churchland contends that FP is a fundamentally flawed view analogous to folk biology, and he argues that recent advances in computational neuroscience and connectionist AI point toward development of a scientifically respectable replacement theory that will give rise to a new common-sense psychology. Fodor, however, wagers that FP will be (...) largely preserved and vindicated by scientific investigations of behavior. Recent findings by developmental psychologists, I argue, will push both Churchlandians and Fodorians toward the pessimistic view that FP is a misguided theory that will never be displaced, because it is, so to speak, built into our cognitive systems. I explore the possibility of preserving optimism by rejecting the theory-theory and adopting the simulation theory, a competing view developed by Robert Gordon, Alvin Goldman, and Jane Heal. According to simulationists, common-sense interpretation of behavior is accomplished by means of pretense-like operations that deploy the cognitive system’s own reasoning capabilities in a disengaged manner. Since on this view no theory-like set of principles would be needed, the simulation theory seems to enjoy a simplicity advantage over the theory-theory. Steven Stich and Shawn Nichols, however, contend that as the cognitive system would require special mechanisms for disengaged operation, the simplicity question cannot be resolved until suitable computational models are developed. I describe a set of models I have constructed to meet this need, and I discuss the contribution such models can make to determining FP’s fate. (shrink)

This study aimed to assess the level of acceptance and perceived impact of DepEd Order No. 21, Series of 2023, among selected public elementary teachers in Balayan, Batangas, focusing on its influence on teaching practices and pupil learning. The study employed an explanatory sequential mixed-method approach, beginning with a quantitative survey and followed by qualitative interviews. The participants consisted of 30 teachers from public elementary schools that participated in the Brigada Eskwela program. The results revealed that teachers generally accepted the (...) policy, recognizing its objectives of promoting cleaner, more organized classrooms conducive to learning. However, challenges related to the removal of visual aids, particularly for younger students, were noted. Teachers experienced minimal disruption in their teaching practices, with some reporting positive effects on classroom management and material organization. While the policy improved pupil engagement by reducing distractions, it also highlighted the need for alternative strategies to support memory retention. The study found no significant differences in acceptance based on demographic factors, suggesting a uniform perception across age, gender, and years of service. Recommendations for improving the implementation of the DepEd Order include providing additional resources, professional development, and feedback mechanisms to support teachers and address logistical challenges. The study contributes to the understanding of the practical implications of DepEd Order No. 21 and offers insights for enhancing its impact on educational practices and outcomes. (shrink)

Employee rights and privileges which are not just told to them but also printed within their contract have always been important, this study aimed to explore the challenges that happen in the contract renewal process at the institution Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc., this study focused on any violations of the employees’ rights, the fulfillment of duties, and the impacts of trust, communication, and expectations. This research is a Case Study under the Qualitative method. The participants of the study, (...) who were chosen by the researchers through the purposive sampling method, are composed of ten (10) current employees of Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc., and two (2) of its admins. With the use of thematic analysis, the collected data was systematically analyzed. The findings indicated that the employees of Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc., had no perceived violations to their rights. The employees also felt that they and the Administration had also built a strong bond of trust between themselves, making them more driven when working. This study also underscored the importance of effective communication during the contract renewal process as good and continuous communication reduced the risk of miscommunication and promoted accountability throughout the contract renewal process. This study explored the challenges encountered by teachers during the implementation of Catch-Up Fridays, specifically in terms of reading comprehension, values education, peace education, and health education. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research employed semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis to gather insights from selected participants. Findings revealed that teachers faced significant challenges, such as limited instructional time, lack of resources, and difficulties in aligning activities with students’ diverse needs. Despite these drawbacks, teachers demonstrated resilience by employing strategies such as integrating (...) technology, fostering collaborative learning, and implementing creative teaching techniques to enhance learning outcomes. Recommendations emphasized the need for targeted professional development programs, access to teaching aids, and the promotion of teacher collaboration to address these challenges effectively. Stretching is one of the important things to do before doing a physical activity. Stretching helps you to avoid possible injuries, muscle soreness and even improve overall performance. The researcher came up with an idea to create a modified stretching routine to assess if our created modified stretching is better than the traditional stretching. This study aims to assess the impact or the effect of the created modified stretching routine to the performance of students. This study utilizes the quasi-experimental research (...) design. In analyzing the data, descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression are being utilized. Overall, based on the results, utilizing modified stretching routine has a positive impact to the student’s performance. There is a significant difference on the student’s performance when they use the modified stretching routine than the traditional stretching routine. From the data collected, it shows that students who uses the modified stretching routine definitely improve their flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and muscular endurance. (shrink)

A graph-theoretic account of logics is explored based on the general notion of m-graph (that is, a graph where each edge can have a finite sequence of nodes as source). Signatures, interpretation structures and deduction systems are seen as m-graphs. After defining a category freely generated by a m-graph, formulas and expressions in general can be seen as morphisms. Moreover, derivations involving rule instantiation are also morphisms. Soundness and completeness theorems are proved. As a consequence of the generality of the (...) approach our results apply to very different logics encompassing, among others, substructural logics as well as logics with nondeterministic semantics, and subsume all logics endowed with an algebraic semantics. This study examines the factors influencing parental loyalty to Immaculate Conception College of Balayan, Inc. (ICCBI),with the goal of developing strategic recommendations to strengthen this relationship. Using a qualitative case study design, the researchers explored expressions of loyalty, contributing factors, and strategies for improvement through semi-structured interviews with ten purposively selected parents identified as loyal parents. The findings highlight that loyalty is fostered by ICCBI’s commitment to quality Catholic education, affordable tuition, and positive parent-teacher interactions. Expressions of loyalty include continued (...) enrollment, advocacy through word-of-mouth, and active parental involvement in school activities. Challenges, such as maintaining consistent communication and enhancing quality education, were identified as areas for improvement. Key recommendations include the development of a comprehensive promotional plan, enhancement of parental engagement through social media and events, and the implementation of innovative teaching strategies. Supplemental zinc in fattening lambs improves their health, performance, and meat quality. However, the Zn effect on grazing animals combined with different levels of concentrate should be known unknown. The objective was to evaluate the Zn-organic effect in the diet of grazing lambs supplemented with two levels of concentrate on growth, dry matter (DM) intake, carcass traits, body composition, meat quality, and fatty acid profile in Longissimus dorsi muscle. Twenty-eight lambs were used in a factorial arrangement of two levels of (...) concentrate (C) feed intake (C-0.75 and C-1.5% of live weight) and two Zn-Met levels (0 and 80 ppm Zn kg−1 DM) on the grazing of Lolium perenne L. Digestibility and dry matter intake, weight gain, and productive performance were measured. At the end of the fattening period (90 d), the lambs were slaughtered and the carcass traits, body composition, instrumental quality, and lipid profile of meat were evaluated. The effect of treatment (T), measurement period (P), and T × P interaction was observed (p < 0.05) for dry matter intake (DMI). For the final live weight (FLW) and daily weight gain (DWG), there was an effect (p < 0.05) of T and P, with Zn-80 ppm + C-1.5% treatment being greater. The live weight at slaughter (LWS) and leg length (LL) showed an effect (p < 0.05) of C × Zn. Zn-80 ppm + C-1.5% treatment was higher in the kidney fat, empty body weight, carcass fat, fat and retained energy but lower in protein content (p < 0.05). The physicochemical characteristics and fatty acid content of meat were not affected (p > 0.05). It can be concluded that the concentrated-organic zinc synergy in grazing lambs improved the performance, weight gain, and body composition, which resulted in heavier carcasses with greater amounts of fat, protein, and energy deposited. Furthermore, the physical and chemical meat traits were not affected, but the n-3 fatty acid content and n-3/n-6 ratio in Longissimus dorsi was affected by the Zn level supplemented. (shrink)

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o efeito da terminação de cordeiros confinados usando resíduo úmido de cervejaria como fonte de volumoso ofertado em diferentes frequências de alimentação sobre as características da carcaça e não componentes da carcaça. Foram utilizados 30 cordeiros machos não castrados, oriundos de um cruzamento alternado entre as raças Texel e Ile de France. Os animais apresentaram ao início do confinamento idade média de 72,7±6 dias e peso médio de 25,44±4,1 kg. Os tratamentos eram constituídos (...) de três diferentes frequências de alimentação, sendo: uma vez ao dia (08:00 horas), duas vezes ao dia (08:00 e 18:00 horas) e três vezes ao dia (08:00, 13:00 e 18:00 horas). A relação volumoso:concentrado usada foi de 46,9:53,1 com base na matéria seca. Os cordeiros foram abatidos quando atingiram o peso vivo de fazenda, de 38 kg. Houve diferença estatística (P<0,05) para as variáveis peso e rendimento de costelas, peso e proporção de Rins e peso de Rum+Ret. As demais variáveis não diferiram (P>0,05) entre os tratamentos. Em função dos resultados podemos recomendar uma única oferta diária como manejo alimentar para cordeiros terminados em confinamento recebendo resíduo úmido de cervejaria como fonte de volumoso. At the beginning of confinement, the animals had an average age of 72.7±6 days and an average weight of 25.44±4.1 kg. The treatments consisted of three different feeding frequencies: once a day (08:00), twice a day (08:00 and 18:00) and three times a day (08:00, 13:00). 00 and 18:00 hours). Based on the results, we can recommend a single daily supply as a dietary management for lambs finished in confinement receiving wet brewery residue as a source of roughage. Los tratamientos consistieron en tres frecuencias de alimentación diferentes: una vez al día (08:00), dos veces al día (08:00 y 18:00) y tres veces al día (08:00, 13:00 y 18:00). horas). A major criticism of David Lewis’ counterfactual theory of causation is that it allows too many things to count as causes, especially since Lewis allows, in addition to events, absences to be causes as well. Peter Menzies has advanced this concern under the title “the problem of profligate causation.” In this paper, I argue that the problem of profligate causation provides resources for exposing a tension between Lewis’ acceptance of absence causation and his modal realism. The result is a different (...) problem of profligate causation—one that attacks the internal consistency of Lewisian metaphysics rather than employing common sense judgments or intuitions that conflict with Lewis’ extensive list of causes. Forty lambs with 90 ± 5 days of age; 24 ± 3 kg initial BW; were confined in a feedlotfor 60 days and assigned two different diets, without or with soy lecithin. The animals were slaughtered, and the carcasses were kept in a cold chamber for 24 h, at 2ºC, and were measured for carcass yield, chemical composition of the meat, lipid oxidation and fatty acid profile. The experimental design was completely randomized, data were analyzed using SAS, and compared with (...) the means by the Student Test at 5% probabilities. The use of soy lecithin improve daily weight gain (kg/d, P < 0.05) and reduced hot and cold carcass yield (P > 0.05), but it did not alter other carcass characteristics with pH, temperature, loin area, subcutaneous fat thickness. The moisture, protein, ethereal extract and mineral of meat has not been altered by the soy lecithin (P>0.05). The results was same for lipid oxidation (P > 0.05). In the fatty acid profile, only C17:1c9 and C18:2t acids were altered (P < 0.05). The study indicates that soy lecithin can be used safely in animal feed as it does not negatively affect the quality of the meat and carcass of the animal, ensuring the production of food safety for the consumer. The use of omega fatty acids during pregnancy and lactation could be a beneficial strategy to improve health and production in ruminants. In this study, the effect of the dietary addition of c9, t11 and t10, c12 isomers of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in pure soybean oil (T1) was compared with pure soybean oil (T2) and soybean oil discarded after frying fish (Centropomus undecimalis, Pagrus pagrus, and Caranx crysos; T3) on the fatty acid profile in ewe milk and the tissues (...) of their lambs. Forty-five multiparous ewes (East Friesian × Katahdin), 32 to 35 months old, 70 days pregnant, were randomly assigned to one of the three experimental diets. The fatty acid profile, total solids, fat, protein, and lactose in milk were determined 14 days postpartum. Fifteen lambs from each treatment were sacrificed at 70 days of age, and the fatty acid profiles in perirenal fat, muscle, and brain were determined. In milk, fat and total solids content were lower with T1. On the other hand, linoleic acid content, the sum of omega-6 and DHA were higher in T1 compared to other groups (p < 0.05). In the brain, stearic acid and linoleic acid concentration increased with T1; eicosapentaenoic acid decreased and omega-3s increased with T3, while DHA was lower in T2 (p < 0.05). The addition of CLA isomers or discarded soybean oil in ewe diet from pregnancy to lactation is advantageous for the ewe since less energy in the form of milk fat is lost. In addition, increasing the concentration of omega fatty acids in ewe diet to improve omega fatty acids in lamb’s brain could be a feed strategy to increase their productivity and health. (shrink)

We aimed at evaluating the best unsaturated fatty acid candidate (vegetable oil) for blending (dry matter-DM basis) with cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL) to improve feed intake, digestibility, nitrogen balance, growth, and carcass traits in sheep. Forty uncastrated male Santa Ines × Dorper crossbred sheep (n = 8/treatment) weighting 24.44 ± 1.5 kg were used. Animals were randomly assigned to a completely randomized design and received one of the following treatments: a control group consisting of a blend of phenolic lipids (CNSL (...) at 0.5%) and canola oil (a monounsaturated fatty acid source, MUFA, at 1.5%), and four treatment groups with CNSL (0.5%) combined with 1.5% of a high polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) vegetable oil (corn, soybean, sunflower, or cottonseed oil), as DM basis. Feeding sheep with CNSL + canola oil resulted in higher SFA, UFA, and MUFA and lower PUFA’s (P < 0.05) intakes. The TDN intake was lower for the CNSL + corn oil diet than the other oils (P < 0.0001). The DM and NDF digestibility were higher for CNSL + cottonseed oil (PUFA) or canola oil (MUFA) diets than other oils (P < 0.05). The CNSL + soybean oil blend promoted a lower urinary N excretion (P = 0.047) in sheep. Growth and carcass traits were not affected by the oil’s composition in the blends. The level of saturation was confirmed as such a determining factor in the DM and NDF digestibility since the oil containing the highest concentration of MUFA (canola oil) showed better digestibility compared to other PUFA-rich oils; however, without effect on the performance and feed efficiency of the sheep.
