For hospitality establishments like the House of Lechon to remain profitable and draw in new clients, maintaining high standards of service quality is essential. Despite this, satisfying and surpassing client expectations is a constant struggle given the dynamic nature of consumer preferences. To evaluate customer satisfaction at the House of Lechon, this study draws on previous research on service quality and examines customers' expectations and experiences in several areas, including responsiveness, tangibility, reliability, assurance, and empathy. This study, which involved a (...) purposive sample of 100 participants, used a descriptive-quantitative technique to identify areas for improvement and suggest strategic actions to improve service quality and close the gap between customer experiences and expectations. This study critically examines the efficacy of Agile project management frameworks within the context of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in Cebu I.T. Park, Philippines. Employing a descriptivecorrelational research design, it gathers insights from 30 participants, comprising rank-and-file employees and management personnel, to evaluate client satisfaction, Agile framework effectiveness, project success metrics, client-provider communication, and continuous improvement practices. The study aims to explore disparities in perceptions between these groups and their implications for Agile adoption. Findings reveal notable differences in how Agile (...) frameworks are perceived and practiced. Rank-and-file employees generally rate Agile practices more favorably, highlighting moderate implementation in areas like client satisfaction and project success metrics. Conversely, management personnel express reservations, rating several indicators as less practiced, particularly in communication and Agile framework effectiveness. These disparities underscore a disconnect between leadership and frontline staff, which hinders consistent implementation and alignment with organizational goals. However, management personnel recognize the importance of continuous improvement, providing a foundation for bridging these gaps. The study recommends targeted training programs, enhanced communication strategies, and the establishment of clear success metrics to align perspectives and foster a culture of collaboration. Incorporating customer feedback loops and iterative development cycles is also emphasized to enhance client satisfaction and adaptability. By addressing these challenges, organizations can optimize Agile adoption, improve project outcomes, and achieve greater efficiency and client satisfaction. Contemporary public discourse is saturated with speech that vilifies and incites hatred or violence against vulnerable groups. The term “hate speech” has emerged in legal circles and in ordinary language to refer to these communicative acts. But legal theorists and philosophers disagree over how to define this term. This paper makes the case for, and subsequently develops, the first corpus-based analysis of the ordinary meaning of “hate speech.” We begin by demonstrating that key interpretive and moral disputes surrounding hate speech (...) laws—in particular, surrounding their compatibility with the rule of law, democracy, and free speech—depend crucially on the ordinary meaning of “hate speech.” Next, we argue, drawing on recent developments in legal philosophy, that corpus linguistics constitutes a distinctively promising tool for ascertaining the ordinary meaning of “hate speech.” Finally, we offer a proof of concept, by outlining, and analyzing the interpretive and moral implications of, the first such study. El Derecho Internacional Humanitario (DIH) nació en Latinoamérica. Ante la creencia imprecisa de que el DIH surgió tras la batalla de Solferino (24 de junio de 1864), como consecuencia de la experiencia de Henry Dunant, se refuta y demuestra que tal aseveración carece de sustentación empírica y científica porque desconoce la importancia histórica y jurídica del Tratado de Regularización de la Guerra y el Tratado de Armisticio suscrito entre la República de Colombia (presidida por El Libertador Simón Bolívar) y el (...) Reino de España (representada por el Mariscal Pablo Morillo) en Trujillo, Venezuela, el 27 de noviembre de 1820, que culminó con el encuentro de ambos líderes combatientes en la histórica población de Santa Ana de Trujillo, llamada, desde entonces, "Morada de Paz" o "Cuna de la Diplomacia Americana". Se destaca en el texto que tales Pactos Internacionales, denominados los "Tratados de Trujillo", fueron aplicados, a modo de precedente jurídico y humanitario, en las diversas Capitulaciones y Acuerdos de Paz que van desde 1820 a 1830 durante el curso de la Lucha de Emancipación frente al imperio español, dando nacimiento al "Derecho de la Guerra" moderno sometido a los sentimientos de piedad, justicia y humanidad. La obra destaca que, a contrario sensu de la opinión mayoritaria, el DIH se configuró en Latinoamérica durante la Guerra de Independencia que lideraron El Libertador Simón Bolívar, El Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho Antonio José de Sucre y los Padres Libertadores de la Gran Colombia (antes integrada por los ahora Estados de Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panamá, Perú y Venezuela) frente al Reino de España, entre 1810 y 1830. La aseveración relacionada con que el DIH nación en dicho contexto local (y no en Europa), tiene como soporte legal, jurídico o dogmático un enorme cúmulo de instrumentos bilaterales y multilaterales (Acuerdos, Capitulaciones, Amnistías y Tratados) que sentaron las bases del "Derecho de la Guerra" o de la humanización del acto violento la guerra a través de su sometimiento a las reglas jurídicas como mecanismo para contener la venganza, la aniquilación y la destrucción de la vida y los bienes del enemigo en el conflicto bélico. Se sostiene que con dicha regulación, se generó y consolidó el Corpus Iuris Pro Humanitatis, para, en medio de la guerra sometida, a la legalidad y el sentido de justicia, resaltar y proteger la dignidad humana de los combatientes, heridos, enfermos, prisioneros de guerra, población civil (no beligerante), los bienes ajenos a las operaciones militares y lograr preservar la paz como valores y principios superiores de la humanidad. Para confirmarlo, vale la cita textual de lo afirmado por Simón Bolívar, El Libertador, cuando le escribió entonces a Pablo Morillo que ambos Estados estaban compelidos a suscribir "...un tratado verdaderamente santo, que regularice la guerra de horrores y crímenes que hasta ahora ha inundado de lágrimas y sangre a Colombia, y que sea un monumento entre las naciones más cultas, de civilización, liberalidad y filantropía..." This study examines the relationship between sustainability and employee perceptions of Human Capital Management (HCM) practices in Cebu City's Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. The participation of 370 different BPO companies at Cebu I.T. Park indicates their dedication to HCM and highlights areas that require improvement, particularly in labor relations and HRIS deployment. Employee evaluations are influenced by demographic factors such as age, gender, and educational attainment. Suggestions for improvement include implementing employee development plans, streamlining the HRIS, strengthening due process, (...) integrating sustainability into HCM practices, and personalizing strategies based on demographics. We may succed in the fulfilment of our desires but still fail to properly own our practical life, perhaps because we acted as addicts, driven by desires that are alien to our will, or as “wantons,” satisfying the desires that we simply happen to have (Frankfurt, 1988 ). May we equally fail to own the outcomes of our epistemic life? If so, how may we attain epistemic ownership over it? This paper explores the structural parallellism between practical and epistemic rationality, (...) building on Williamson’s ( 2002 ) suggestion that we should commence with successful performances as the foundation for both domains, be it action or knowledge. By highlighting the limitations of higher-order regulative approaches in epistemology, exemplified by Sosa ( 2007, 2011, 2015, 2021 ), the paper introduces a form of teleological epistemic constitutivism inspired by Velleman ( 2000, 2009 ). The proposal is that epistemic ownership is not attained in the mere pursuit of truth or knowledge, but requires furthermore a struggle to understand what we know. (shrink)

This study looks at the relationship between organizational support, employee commitment, and human resource management (HRM) practices at Visayan Surety & Insurance Corporation in Cebu City, Philippines. This descriptive-correlational study used a survey questionnaire to gather data from 25 employees. The results show that although the company does a great job in areas like leadership development and talent management, employee development initiatives could need some work. The study also emphasizes the importance of organizational support in promoting employee commitment and the (...) necessity of continual efforts to establish a supportive work environment. Additionally, demographic profiles have little bearing on HRM procedures and organizational support—except educational attainment, which affects several organizational commitment factors. These results highlight how crucial it is to develop tailored HRM strategies that both fit the varied demands of the workforce and the objectives of the company. (shrink)

The syllogism and the predicate calculus cannot account for an ontological argument in Descartes' Fifth Meditation and related texts. Descartes' notion of god relies on the analytic-synthetic distinction, which Descartes had identified before Leibniz and Kant did. I describe how the syllogism and the predicate calculus cannot explain Descartes' ontological argument; then I apply the analytic-synthetic distinction to Descartes’ idea of god.

This research examines how it is to have tailored training programs to improve behavior at work. It focuses on aspects including interpersonal skills, communication, adaptability, and work ethics. Acknowledging the paucity of empirical research on particular training requirements for these characteristics, the study uses a descriptive-correlational methodology to examine information from ninety production employees at Fine Interiors Trading and Manufacturing Incorporated. To guarantee participation from a range of employment roles, participants were chosen using purposive sampling. Utilizing an extensive survey to (...) evaluate training requirements and demographic data. An assessment of the relationship between training requirements and demographic factors was done using statistical methods such as Chi Square tests and descriptive statistics. The findings indicate that different people have different levels of training demands, and there are strong relationships between the training needs and age, civil status, length of service, educational attainment, assignment area, and employment status. The results highlight the need to tailor training initiatives to particular worker requirements, fostering ongoing enhancement and career advancement. This research adds to the body of knowledge in academia and has real-world implications for businesses looking to get the most out of their training initiatives. (shrink)

Las violaciones de los Derechos Humanos se contienen eficientemente a través de la resistencia pacífica que conduce a resultados positivos. Codificar, señalar o clasificar lo que está mal no es suficiente. La idea se implementa con la protección del medio ambiente, la propiedad de la tierra, la consolidación de la comunidad y el empoderamiento de las mujeres cuando se desarrollan siguiendo los principios del Turismo de Base Comunitaria (TBC). A través de la investigación longitudinal, se realizó un estudio de caso (...) en la zona rural de Bogotá. Tres iniciativas de TBC fueron revisadas. Primero se realiza la contextualización, luego se analizan los principios del turismo comunitario y el concepto de resiliencia. El enfoque central de esta investigación es la configuración teórica de la violencia en La ciudad y los perros y la interacción representada entre los personajes principales (para aludir al Jaguar, el Poeta y el Esclavo; para ellos ha usado convencionalmente el término «tríada protagónica»; a la vez, asume que estos personajes podrían ser entidades dispuestas a los posteriores análisis). Desarrolla la metateoría de los triángulos jerárquicos — la cual será convencionalmente graficada de forma piramidal, para que con ello se (...) represente la idea de superioridad e inferioridad con respecto a algún rango asignado a los valores o los personajes —, estos facilitarán la demostración del carácter evolutivo de la violencia en la tríada protagónica (por lo que el Esclavo sería un primer portador mínimo de la violencia; luego, el Poeta, con un poco más de agresión; y, finalmente, el Jaguar, quien estaría configurado como violento, dandi, agresor y manipulador). La forma de demostrar esta metateoría compuesta se basa en una mecánica repetitiva y cíclica, en su mayoría, de apropiación o rechazo hacia un determinado carácter, como también referente al ascenso y el descenso por los cuales atraviesa la valoración del mismo. De alguna manera, se explica que la adquisición de la violencia, como objeto interno de los personajes, provocaría una falsa visión de evolución, seguridad y madurez en un primer momento, mientras que se demostraría que aquella conducta, ilusoriamente adquirida, conllevaría una vía autodestructiva de la interioridad de los sujetos. En la presente reflexión, se exponen algunos de los efectos jurídicos y procesales derivados de la Declaración Conjunta de Argyle por el Diálogo y la Paz entre Guyana y Venezuela (Declaración Conjunta, en adelante), publicada en San Vicente y Las Granadinas en fecha 14 de diciembre de 2023. Se analizan, de manera sucinta, las implicaciones procesales que la Declaración Conjunta, asumida como elemento material probatorio, genera a favor de la posición jurídica de Venezuela que puede promover, con base a una (...) serie de hechos nuevos de relevante valor y eficacia procesal, tanto la i) la excepción de inadmisibilidad sobrevenida de la demanda judicial que, por el territorio de la Guayana Esequiba, promueve Guyana contra Venezuela, en la Corte Internacional de Justicia (CIJ) dada la impprocedencia de la misma y ii) la excepción de incompetencia sobrevenida de la CIJ para tramitar y decidir el litigio... Los autores dejan enunciado que, conforme a los Principios Generales del Derecho Internacional, concordados al artículo 52 de la Convención de Viena sobre Derecho de los Tratados y con la Declaración Conjunta de Argyle, es jurídicamente factible que Venezuela, conforme a los Principios el procedimiento de los artículos 65 y 66 ejusdem, promueva la nulidad absoluta retroactiva del Tratado Arbitral de Washington de 1897 y, de manera consecuencial, la nulidad absoluta retroactiva, ya reconocida, del Laudo Arbitral de París de 1899 por la coacción y la agresión y la invasión territorial que sirvieron de contexto y pretexto para su aprobación por parte de Venezuela, como medio para tratar de darle aparente legalidad a la ocupación militar ilegal de nuestro territorio Esequibo por parte del Reino Unido. Three arguments summarize opposition to laws protecting LGBTQ+ persons from discrimination: (1) The pseudo-democratic argument (social change should be free of governmental coercion); (2) The clinical argument (homosexuality is an illness); (3) The choice argument (homosexuality is a choice). My purpose is to show the three are vulnerable to damaging objections. This article reflects conditions as they were in 1987 in the USA. For example, the expression LGBTQ+ had not been coined. The aim is to examine the multiple meanings of creativity in creative economy. The meanings which reinforce the individual aspect stress that personal characteristics may unlock the wealth that lies within people. The definitions that reinforce the organizational and social aspects understand creativity as a process, which requires knowledge, networks, and technologies that interconnect novel ideas and contexts. The perspectives which reinforce the political aspect see that creativity took the status of a doctrine to secure collaboration between government and industry. (...) Confirming Robinson’s Statement? A Lakatosian Analysis of Keynes and his Immediate Orthodoxy Jesús Muñoz Abstract Was the Keynesian message alive during the second half of the XXth Century, or was it betrayed by his followers? This article in the fields of the history of economic thought and methodology contrasts the Scientific Research Programmes (SRPs), a Lakatosian concept, of Keynes in The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money (TGT) with those of its immediate orthodox schools: Monetarism (MS), Neoclassical Synthesis (...) (NS), New Classical Macroeconomics – rational expectations – (RE) and General Disequilibrium (GD). The objective is to to assess the immediate impact of Keynes’s vision in economics. It can be concluded according to this comparison that Keynes’s bequeath was alive during the period between 1950 and 1980, but that it was accepted under different names. Many economists deny this statement. However it is hereby argued with the help of Lakatosian methodology that in both economic and philosophical terms the MS, NS, RE and GD SRPs are degenerative variants of Keynes's SRP. The Keynesian reasoning chain -a non self-regulated system, non neutrality on the part of money, organicism, non-ergodicity, historical time and uncertainty- is misunderstood and hence misapplied on the part of these deviant schools, or transformed into “bastard Keynesianism”, to quote Joan Robinson (Joan Robinson, 1975[1973], 125). In other words, Keynes’s economics is different from Keynesian economics as was firstly proposed by Axel Leijonhuvfud (Leijonhuvfud, 1968). The internal history of macroeconomics in those periods is undertaken, since it is is the rational reconstruction of the meaning of a SRP. Section 1 is an introduction to basic concepts related to philosophy of science and methodology, especially Lakatosian methodology, which can be skipped by the specialized reader. Section 2 is an analysis of Keynes’s hard core in his SRP, also being an introduction to the problem as it outlines Keynes’s thinking, Section 3 describes initial Post Keynesianism, which was faithful to the original message. Sections 4, 5, 6 and 7 outline the hard cores of Monetarists, Neoclassical Synthesis, New Classical Macroeconomics and General Disequilibrium, respectively. Esta investigación retoma la obra de Gabriel García Márquez, Noticia de un secuestro (1996), con la volición de cuestionar la idea de Estado nación que está inmersa en el libro. Para ello, es necesario entender que la naturaleza del texto exige un conocimiento amplio al lector o al intérprete, puesto que su contenido revela datos multidisciplinarios. Además, es insoslayable realizar un análisis discursivo de la historia de ese contexto y cotejar con pasajes del mismo libro. Para facilitar esta labor, la (...) extrapolación de conceptos del teórico Luis Rodríguez Manzanera será de utilidad, ya que él despliega definiciones de Criminología, un tema frecuente en la obra. Verbigracia, la macrocriminalidad, una noción que él postula, permite que se comprenda la complexión del periodo histórico finisecular del siglo XX en Colombia, etapa que le corresponde a Noticia de un secuestro. Por otro lado, es menester dilucidar que este estudio no se reduce a lo literario, lo histórico y lo criminológico, sino que abarca distintas disciplinas, por lo que la exigencia en la consolidación epistemológica e interpretativa estará demostrada consuetudinariamente, sin obviar la inmanencia de la obra. Este tipo de análisis interdisciplinarios ya ha sido trabajado desde los Estudios Culturales, tal como se constata en las investigaciones de Richard Johnson (2000) o Néstor García Canclini (1997). De igual modo, el intento de establecer lineamientos y conexiones entre disciplinas como las de Literatura y Derecho ya ha sido desarrollado por Stanley Fish (1986), Faustino Martínez (2005), Carlos Pérez (2006) y Denise Schalet (2014). A diferencia de estos abordajes ya estudiados, el objetivo de esta investigación es detectar y fundamentar cómo se articula una propuesta ideológica desde una configuración que reanuda elementos históricos y literarios. En específico, lo que se busca es argumentar por qué fracasó implícitamente un proyecto sociopolítico de democracia y progreso, a partir de un panorama de violencia, narcoterrorismo, corrupción, negociaciones ilícitas, transgresión a los derechos humanos e inseguridad ciudadana. Con todo ello, esta tesis de maestría terminará siendo fructuosa para análisis postremos de discursos que tienen como esencia un soporte multidisciplinario. (shrink)

Although this paper does not deny this influence, its aim is to reconsider it from a different perspective, by acknowledging that it was not Montaigne’s Scepticism, but his Stoicism, which played the decisive role in the birth of the modern internalist conception of subjectivity. Cartesian need for certitude is to be better understood as an effect of the Stoic (...) model of wisdom, which urges the sage to build an inner space for self-sufficiency and absolute freedom. Reductive intellectualists (e.g., Stanley & Williamson 2001; Stanley 2011a; 2011b; Brogaard 2008; 2009; 2011) hold that knowledge-how is a kind of knowledge-that. If this thesis is correct, then we should expect the defeasibility conditions for knowledge-how and knowledge-that to be uniform—viz., that the mechanisms of epistemic defeat which undermine propositional knowledge will be equally capable of imperilling knowledge-how. The goal of this paper is twofold: first, against intellectualism, we will show that knowledge-how is in fact resilient to being undermined by (...) the very kinds of traditional (propositional) epistemic defeaters which clearly defeat the items of propositional knowledge which intellectualists identify with knowledge-how. Second, we aim to fill an important lacuna in the contemporary debate, which is to develop an alternative way in which epistemic defeat for knowledge-how could be modelled within an anti-intellectualist framework. The aim of this paper is to discuss a basic assumption tacitly shared by many philosophers of mind and language: that whatever can be meant, can be said. It specifically targets John Searle's account of this idea, focusing on his Principle of Expressibility . In the first part of the paper, PE is exposed underlining its analyticity and its relevance for the philosophy of language , mind , society and action . In the critical part, the notion of Background is (...) taken into account in order to re-evaluate two basic distinctions: the one between sentence and utterance meanings , and the one between native and type speakers . PE is reconsidered in the light of the previous arguments as a methodological strategy that does not prevent uses of language from eventual semantic excesses and deficits , and a complementary Principle of Expression Fallibility is finally proposed. Penomenolohikal na pagsusuri ang disenyong ginamit sa pag-aaral na tumuon sa pagsukat at pag-aanalisang tematiko ng mga tugon. Este artículo tiene el propósito de argumentar cómo se logra una contribución eximia a la Literatura al abarcar la universalidad de sus recursos. Para demostrar ese acápite, he tomado como referente la perspectiva de Mario Vargas Llosa en relación con el debate que se efectuó entre Julio Cortázar y José María Arguedas. De ese encuentro académico, es asequible auscultar tres tópicos perentorios que se orientan a preservar la condición literaria desde una volición global. El primero de ellos consiste en reanudar (...) un conocimiento sobre la realidad mundial para poder interactuar con una audiencia compatible. El segundo se basa en considerar los estilos y las técnicas que no claudican de la tradición ni la evolución literaria. Para finiquitar, se mencionará la diatriba biográfica como una muestra del desarraigo de lo fundamental en la exégesis. El personaje Ricardo Arana (...) practica la no violencia, pero ni aun así puede librarse de las perversidades de sus otros compañeros; la resistencia que ejerce tan solo provoca que los demás muchachos lo envidien y terminen abusando de él, más que de cualquier otro estudiante. When we speak of language we usually use the concept of a particular language. In this sense the concept denoted with the word language may vary from one language to another. Real language (=the language spoken) on the contrary is the reality lived by speakers thus encompassing complex and multifarious activities. Depending on the language spoken, the modes of thinking, modes of being in the conception of things, and systems of beliefs transmitted by means of particular languages, denote the living (...) reality of language with different grammatical categories. The concept “language” is expressed sometimes with a noun, thus denoting something existing in it; sometimes with a verb, thus denoting an action or an activity; and sometimes with an adverb, thus denoting the mode of an activity. The reality or degree of reality implicit in these grammatical categories involves a particular mode of thinking, prompted with a particular mode of being in the conception of things. Because of this it is necessary to distinguish the concept of language as something different from the reality of language. But first of all it is necessary to determine the reality or degree of reality of both the reality lived by speakers and the thing usually conceived of as language or a language. (shrink)
