L’Intelligenza Artificiale Generativa (IAG) pone sfide inedite all’educazione universitaria. Dalla definizione dei contenuti alla valutazione delle prove e alla determinazione delle modalità di esame, questo nuovo e potente strumento inaugura una stagione di cambiamenti su cui è urgente riflettere. La tecnologia contribuisce da sempre a dare forma al lavoro didattico, il quale evolve anche alla luce delle opportunità e dei rischi che essa introduce. Come far sì che l’evoluzione stimolata dall’IAG sia felice, ovvero serva i valori e gli obiettivi della (...) didattica e delle persone che la vivono? Ne ho discusso con alcuni colleghi dell’Unità di Studi META del Politecnico di Milano – docenti impegnati a vario titolo in corsi di carattere filosofico e sociale rivolti a studenti di formazione tecnica. Há alguns anos escrevi um pequeno texto que ilustra uma situação problemática sobre o julgamento de se a vida de uma determinada pessoa fictícia (Bento) foi uma vida feliz ou não. Uso com frequência esse texto em minhas aulas introdutórias, como um recurso didático para explicar o que é a filosofia, qual o seu papel no nosso entendimento do mundo, e também para ilustrar a sua principal dificuldade, que é o caráter aporético das questões filosóficas: elas não admitem soluções unânimes (...) ou incontroversas. Elas sempre exigem escolha e engajamento. O mérito desse texto (que será reproduzido no diálogo abaixo) é que praticamente todos nós, ao o lermos ou ouvirmos, temos uma propensão imediata e irresistível de considerar ou que a vida de Bento foi feliz ou que ela foi infeliz. E nós divergimos sobre isso. Em todas as incontáveis vezes que o apresentei para alguma plateia, jamais as respostas foram unânimes. Sempre houve divergências, o que ilustra bem o caráter aporético da filosofia. Logo que eu soube do ChatGPT e de suas capacidades extraordinárias como sistema de inteligência artificial (IA), resolvi provocá-lo com meu texto. Sua resposta à pergunta sobre a felicidade de Bento foi impressionantemente clara. Talvez a resposta mais clara sobre a questão que já obtive até hoje. Fiquei realmente impressionado, mas também um pouco decepcionado. Porque apesar de fazer uma análise filosófica bastante sofisticada da situação, o ChatGPT recusou-se a fazer uma escolha, a decidir se o personagem teve ou não uma vida feliz. Ele me informou que, como um sistema de IA, ele não tem valores e não faz escolhas. Não gosta nem desgosta, não prefere. E isso me deixou frustrado, porque escolher, preferir, decidir, mesmo quando não temos todas as informações completas é, para mim, não apenas a essência da filosofia, como também a essência de nossa inteligência humana. Como eu queria ver o ChatGPT fazer escolhas, adotei, então, a estratégia de solicitar que ele assumisse um personagem humano, que fingisse ser uma pessoa, e passei a conversar com esta pessoa. Se ele executar bem o papel de uma pessoa, então ele deverá fazer escolhas, pensei. E assim começou esta nossa conversa filosófica sobre a felicidade. (shrink)

This paper offers an overview of the prospects and ethics of using AI to achieve human enhancement, and more broadly what we call intellectual augmentation (IA). After explaining the central notions of human enhancement, IA, and AI, we discuss the state of the art in terms of the main technologies for IA, with or without brain-computer interfaces. Given this picture, we discuss potential ethical problems, namely inadequate performance, safety, coercion and manipulation, privacy, cognitive liberty, authenticity, and fairness in more detail. We conclude that while there are very significant technical hurdles to real human enhancement through AI, and significant ethical problems, there are also significant benefits that may realistically be achieved in ways that are consonant with a rights-based ethics as well. La PAI es la “Asociación sobre inteligencia artificial en beneficio de las personas y la sociedad” (Partnership on AI to Benefit People and Society) y es una organización sin fines de lucro con sede en San Francisco, California, que reúne a organizaciones académicas, de la sociedad civil, a empresas tecnológicas y de los medios de comu- nicación para abordar cuestiones sustanciales, básicamente sobre el futuro de la IA, pero también otros importantes retos mundiales como el cambio climático, la alimentación, la (...) desigualdad, la salud y la educación. Tienen cinco programas que contribuyen al desarrollo de recursos, recomendaciones y mejores prácticas para la IA: inteligencia artificial e integridad mediática; IA, trabajo y economía; justicia, transparencia y responsabilidad en aprendizaje automático (ML); investigación y diseño inclusivos; y seguridad para la IA crítica. En este capítulo se destaca que, si bien PAI ha sido criticada por estar dominada en gran medida por grandes empresas tecnológicas, lo que podría limitar su autonomía y autocrítica, es una organización valiosa e influyente en el campo de la ética y la gobernanza de la IA, y desempeña un papel importante en la promoción del desarrollo y el despliegue responsables, no solo de la IA, sino de la tecnología y los medios de comunicación en general. En este capítulo se analizan las propuestas éticas para el desarrollo digital y empresarial de cuatro grandes corporativos internacionales: Microsoft, Google (Alphabet), Facebook (Meta) y Apple. Se ponderan cada uno de sus compromisos publicados en sus plataformas respectivas o las políticas compartidas por sus direcciones ejecutivas. Si bien cada una de las megaempresas, al menos en el papel, presume una serie de valores incuestionables por su integridad, también es cierto que la mayoría ha tenido que enfrentar crisis por la carencia (...) precisamente de algunos de los principios por ellos mismos proclamados. También es cierto que no puede hacerse generalizaciones precipitadas, por eso aquí se comparte primero, objetivamente, lo que proponen y, siendo autorregulatorias, se discute hasta qué punto han cumplido sus propias aspiraciones éticas. Las normas nacionales y el campo de batalla tecnológico, industrial, económico e incluso militar de las aplicaciones de la inteligencia artificial se enfrentarán significativamente entre las potencias mundiales a medida que avance la carrera por la supremacía geopolítica estratégica. China y Estados Unidos están considerados como las dos naciones punteras en I+D (investigación y desarrollo). Estados Unidos alberga algunas de las principales empresas e instituciones de IA, y cuenta con un sólido historial de innovación y espíritu emprendedor en el sector (...) tecnológico. China, por su parte, ha avanzado considerablemente en I+D gracias a la financiación pública, a un gran número de jóvenes investigadores y al espíritu de competencia del Partido Comunista Chino. Rusia, por su parte, con un liderazgo pragmático y demencial, avanza en IA a paso firme y sin mayores reservas. Cada uno de los tres países ha publicado su normativa ética para la IA y, como objetivo de este capítulo, se presenta un análisis ponderado de cada uno. (shrink)

“Diseño alineado éticamente: una visión para priorizar el bienestar humano con sistemas autónomos e inteligentes, primera edición” fue redactado bajo la “Iniciativa global sobre ética de los sistemas autónomos e inteligentes” y es un documento que pretende ofrecer un marco para las consideraciones éticas en el diseño, desarrollo, despliegue y uso de los sistemas de IA, con el objetivo de garantizar que las tecnologías digitales ayuden a las personas en sus labores. El Diseño consta de ocho principios: derechos humanos, bienestar, (...) agencia de datos, eficacia, transparencia, rendición de cuentas, conciencia de uso indebido y competencia. Algunas de las observaciones a la iniciativa son que podría estar influida por los beneficios de la industria, y no represente las perspectivas e intereses de las comunidades digitalmente marginadas. A pesar de estas críticas, el documento del IEEE sigue siendo influyente en el campo de la ética y la gobernanza de la IA, y ha desempeñado un papel importante en la configuración del debate mundial en torno al desarrollo y despliegue responsables de la tecnología. También se analiza que el Instituto ha lanzado el “IEEE 7000™-2021, proceso de modelo estándar IEEE para abordar preocupaciones éticas durante el diseño del sistema” con el que sienta el precedente más objetivo de una ética de la IA aplicable. El “Foro de Montreal sobre el desarrollo socialmente responsable de la inteligencia artificial” fue una conferencia que inició en noviembre de 2017, donde más de 400 participantes de diversos sectores y disciplinas discutieron las implicaciones éticas y sociales de la IA. La conferencia también condujo a la creación de la “Declaración de Montreal para un desarrollo responsable de la inteligencia artificial” que se dio a conocer a finales de 2018 con más de 500 signatarios. La declaración describe 10 principios y (...) 59 recomendaciones para guiar el desarrollo de la IA de manera que respete la dignidad humana, la autonomía, la justicia y la democracia. Los principios de la ética de la IA de Montreal también han sido criticados. Por ejemplo, se argumenta que no cubre el posible uso malicioso de la IA para actividades como la guerra, la vigilancia o la propaganda personalizada, y no ofrecen orientaciones ni mecanismos específicos para su aplicación y cumplimiento. De cualquier modo, se considera un importante paso en el desarrollo de la ética de la IA y ha sido amplia- mente reconocida por su enfoque global e integrador, y como punto de referencia para los esfuerzos posteriores. Với mục đích tìm ra các nhân tố tác động tới quyết định mua sắm qua nền tảng mạng xã hội Tiktok của sinh viên trên địa bàn TP. Hà Nội, nghiên cứu xây dựng mô hình dựa trên thuyết hành động hợp lý (TRA), thuyết hành vi dự định (TPB) và một số lý thuyết khác, đồng thời, sử dụng phương pháp định lượng và sử dụng phần mềm SPSS nhằm phân tích và kiểm định mô hình các nhân (...) tố tác động. Kích cỡ mẫu dự kiến là 320 sinh viên mua sắm trực tuyến thông qua mạng xã hội Tiktok tại Hà Nội. Thời gian khảo sát từ tháng 4/2024 đến tháng 5/2024. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy, Quyết định mua hàng qua mạng xã hội Tiktok của sinh viên tại TP. Hà Nội chịu tác động của 6 nhân tố bao gồm: (1) Nhận thức về tính hữu dụng; (2) Lòng tin; (3) Cảm nhận rủi ro; (4) Thương hiệu; (5) Ảnh hưởng xã hội và (6) Khuyến mãi. Từ đó, nghiên cứu đề xuất một số giải pháp nhằm cải thiện, tối ưu các hoạt động kinh doanh và mua bán trực tuyến trong thời đại số hiện nay. -/- [The purpose of the research is to find out the factors that affect students’ shopping decisions via the social networking platform Tiktok in Hanoi city, researching and building a model based on the theory of reasoned action (TRA), theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and several other theories, at the same time, using quantitative methods and SPSS software to analyze and test the model of influencing factors. The expected sample size is 320 students shopping online through the social network Tiktok in Hanoi. The survey time is from April 2024 to May 2024. The results of the study show that students’ purchasing decisions via the social network Tiktok in Hanoi city are influenced by six factors including (1) Perception of usefulness, (2) Trust, (3) Perceived risk, (4) Brand, (5) Social influence, and (6) Promotion. Bài viết đánh giá các nhân tố tác động đến việc sử dụng QR-Code tại các cửa hàng tạp hóa trên địa bàn TP. Biên Hòa, tỉnh Đồng Nai. En este artículo relatamos cómo el Centro Nacional de Inteligencia Artifcial (CENIA) busca abordar las consideraciones éticas en sus proyectos de investigación de IA. Hemos conformado un Grupo de Trabajo en Ética (GTE) con representantes de cada línea de investigación del Centro y, en conjunto, hemos explorado diferentes desafíos que aquí resumimos. Primero, discutimos si el enfoque ético en IA requiere un análisis adicional al de los comités de ética de investigación. Luego, revisamos los principios que se han propuesto para (...) resolver los problemas éticos que emergen alrededor de la IA. Finalmente, presentamos la iniciativa de CENIA para priorizar principios éticos propios, que involucra el desarrollo de un enfoque metodológico para evaluarlos. Como conclusión, destacamos la importancia de la ética como una herramienta para mejorar el desarrollo de la IA y subrayamos la necesidad de enfoques éticos específcos para la región latinoamericana. In this Interview, Professor Robert B. Brandom answered ten detailed questions about his philosophy of Rational Pragmatism and Semantic Expressivism, grouped into four topics. 1. Metaphysics and Anthropology, 2. Pragmatics and Semantics, 3. Epistemic Expressivism and 4. Philosophy of Logic. With his careful answers Professor Brandom offers many additional insights into his rigorously constructed account of the relationship “between what we say and think, and what we are saying and thinking about” around the human practice of asking for and giving (...) reasons. A final, additional question pointed at a principal motivation for putting together the present issue: how to reconcile Wittgenstein’s assertion that philosophy must not proffer any theories with the very explicit system of explanations Brandom has constructed. This same issue is addressed to some extent already in Professor Brandom’s new article contained in this issue, but his answer, asserting that he does not proffer a theory but only makes explicit what is already there, might be seen as an unambiguous statement of the continuous presence of a contested Wittgensteinian principle in Brandom’s work. Aristóteles, em sua obra De anima, além de apresentar uma intrigante teoria sobre intelecto (nous), que dá margem a uma compreensão bipartida do mesmo em ativo (nous poiētikos) e passivo (nous pathetikon), afirma que as afecções do intelecto são distintas das afecções de quem o possui. Uma das afecções deste que possui o intelecto, segundo o filósofo, é o raciocínio. Ademais, diz que este é perecível, ao passo que aquele é impassível e eterno. Desta maneira, longe de aclarar, acaba por (...) dif icultar não somente o entendimento do conceito de intelecto, como também o entendimento do que viria a ser a atividade racional (dianóia). Dessarte, o presente trabalho visa esclarecer os conceitos de nous e dianóia no intuito de obtermos, numa perspectiva aristotélica, um maior entendimento do nosso processo de conhecimento em geral. Từ dữ liệu khảo sát là 292 người tiêu dùng trẻ trên địa bàn tỉnh Thái Nguyên, tác giả đã đánh giá ảnh hưởng của affiliate marketing tới quyết định mua sản phẩm thời trang của giới trẻ. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy, có 4 yếu tố tác động đến Ý định mua sản phẩm thời trang của giới trẻ gồm: Thông tin được chia sẻ; Khả năng điều hướng; Cảm nhận về giá trị của affiliate marketing; Đề xuất (...) tặng thưởng. Đồng thời, Ý định mua cũng tác động tích cực đến Quyết định mua. Kết quả nghiên cứu sẽ giúp doanh nghiệp ngành thời trang xác định được các yếu tố ảnh hưởng và mức độ ảnh hưởng của affiliate marketing tới thói quen mua sắm và quyết định mua của người trẻ trên địa bàn tỉnh Thái Nguyên. Dựa trên việc khảo sát 200 du khách nội địa đến với điểm đến Làng hoa Sa Đéc (tỉnh Đồng Tháp), nghiên cứu này đánh giá ảnh hưởng của sức hấp dẫn điểm đến, sự hài lòng tới lòng trung thành điểm đến Làng hoa Sa Đéc của du khách nội địa. Kết quả cho thấy, Sức hấp dẫn điểm đến có ảnh hưởng tích cực và trực tiếp đến Sự hài lòng; trong khi đó, Sự hài lòng có ảnh (...) hưởng tích cực và trực tiếp đến Lòng trung thành điểm đến. [Based on a survey of 200 domestic tourists to the tourist destination Dong Thap. In this study, based on the results of previous studies, the author proposed a model to study the effects of destination attractiveness and satisfaction on destination loyalty of domestic tourists. Furthermore, the author uses the method of analyzing and verifying the linear structural model (SEM) with the support of the SmartSPL3.0 tool. The results show that the destination attractiveness factor has a positive and direct influence on satisfaction, satisfaction has a positive and direct influence on destination loyalty. Nghiên cứu này xem xét tác động của trải nghiệm ẩm thực đến ý định hành vi của khách du lịch đến TP. Huế - một địa phương nổi tiếng với ẩm thực tại Việt Nam. Dữ liệu của 255 khách du lịch nội địa đã được thu thập bằng bảng hỏi và phương pháp mô hình phương trình cấu trúc (SEM) đã được sử dụng để phân tích. Kết quả thực nghiệm cho thấy, Trải nghiệm ẩm thực có tác (...) động tích cực đến Hình ảnh điểm đến và Ý định giới thiệu điểm đến với người khác; Hình ảnh điểm đến có tác động tích cực đến Ý định quay lại và Ý định giới thiệu về điểm đến của khách du lịch; và Hình ảnh điểm đến làm trung gian cho mối quan hệ giữa Trải nghiệm ẩm thực và Ý định giới thiệu điểm đến. Giáo dục rác thải nhựa cho học sinh (HS) là một trong những chiến lược hiệu quả và lâu dài để ứng phó với thực trạng ô nhiễm rác thải nhựa ngày càng nghiêm trọng hiện nay. Trong bài viết này, chúng tôi đề cập đến việc tích hợp giáo dục rác thải nhựa cho học sinh trung học cơ sở (THCS) ở thành phố Hồ Chí Minh (Tp.HCM) thông qua các bài học địa lí. Trên cơ sở điều tra (...) khảo sát đã cho thấy thực trạng hiểu biết, nhận thức của học sinh vàcông tác giáo dục tuyên truyền về rác thải nhựa qua môn Địa lí trong các trường THCS ở Tp.HCM vẫn còn nhiều hạn chế. Từ đó, chúng tôi đã xác định mục tiêu giáo dục cụ thể, xây dựng quy trình 5 bước tích hợp, xác định hình thức giáo dục vàđề xuất 7 phương pháp dạy học tích cực trong giáo dục rác thải nhựa thông qua các bài học địa lí. Nghiên cứu được thực hiện nhằm xác định các nhân tố ảnh hưởng đến Sự lựa chọn dịch vụ kế toán của các doanh nghiệp (DN) nhỏ và siêu nhỏ trên địa bàn tỉnh Nghệ An. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy, có 8 nhân tố ảnh hưởng đến Sự lựa chọn dịch vụ kế toán của các DN nhỏ và siêu nhỏ trên địa bàn tỉnh Nghệ An được sắp xếp theo thứ tự tác động giảm dần bao gồm: (...) Sự đa dạng về dịch vụ; Đội ngũ nhân viên; Trình độ chuyên môn; Sự giới thiệu; Lợi ích cảm nhận; Hình ảnh đối tượng cung cấp dịch vụ; Khả năng đáp ứng; Giá phí. Bên cạnh đó, nhóm nghiên cứu cũng đưa ra các hàm ý chính sách giúp các DN cung cấp dịch vụ kế toán nâng cao sự lựa chọn dịch vụ, cải thiện dịch vụ, thu hút thêm khách hàng. (shrink)

Indeed, unless I am mistaken, not only these four qualities, but also all the others (indeed all the forms of inanimate bodies) can be explained without the need of supposing for that purpose any other thing (...) in their matter than the motion, size, shape, and arrangement of its parts.” So does Descartes, in his The World, or Treatise on Light [Le Monde ou Traité de la Lumière], express the uniphenomenal principle of the physical world, which is the basis - or foundation - of his great cosmic synthesis. The uniphenomenal character of Cartesian physics - namely, explaining all phenomena and appearances from a single primordial phenomenon (and substance) - has such a great semantic and intuitive value for the structure of the human mind that Plato, even before Aristotle’s hyle, had come to contemplate his concept of chora, the cosmic and universal matrix at the base of all phenomena, existing before and beyond the coming into existence of the elements and of sensible things. Even the physics of Democritus is uniphenomenal. A perfect example of uniphenomenal physics in our time is the Spacio-fluido-dynamics of the scientist Marco Todeschini (Bergamo, 1899 - 1988) who, with his monumental Teoria delle apparenze [Theory of Appearances] of ’49 tried to clear a path towards the hope of reaching a Cartesian kind of unified cosmic synthesis. (We accept only the fundamental concept of Todeschi’s theory here, that is, the uniphenomenal character of his physics, without occupying ourselves with criteria such as the value or the plausibility of his hypotheses.) This concept of uniphenomenal physics will serve as an ultra-clear instrument to dissipate the epistemological fog of AI (Artificial Intelligence). (shrink)

Hồ Chí Minh là: Co.opmart, Winmart, Mega Market và Bách hóa xanh, nghiên cứu nhằm kiểm định các nhân tố ảnh hưởng đến giá trị thương hiệu của doanh nghiệp bán lẻ hàng tiêu dùng trên địa bàn TP. Hồ Chí Minh. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy, có 6 nhân tố ảnh hưởng tới Giá trị (...) thương hiệu của doanh nghiệp bán lẻ hàng tiêu dùng theo thứ tự giảm dần gồm: (1) Lòng trung thành với thương hiệu, (2) Thái độ với thương hiệu, (3) Sự tin cậy thương hiệu, (4) Chất lượng cảm nhận, (5) Nhận thức thương hiệu, (6) Sự gắn bó với thương hiệu. This contribution aims to investigate not so much the ethical implications of utilizing intelligent machines in specific contexts, (human resources, self-driving cars, robotic hospital assistants, et cetera), but the premises of their widespread use. In particular, it aims to analyze the complex concept of decision making - the cornerstone of any ethical argument - from a dual point of view: decision making assigned to machines and decision making enacted by machines. Gran parte della letteratura riguardante l’uso dell’intelligenza artificiale (IA) sul posto di lavoro, in particolare nell’ambito dell’assistenza infermieristica e dei servizi di cura, si è concentrata sui problemi etici che insorgono a valle della sua implementazione o per ragioni puramente speculative. Concentrarsi sull’IA come artefatto separato dal suo design e dai suoi progettisti rende l’assistenza infermieristica e la cura, come qualsiasi altro settore, in gran parte impotente nei confronti degli impatti dell’IA. Per questo motivo, la focalizzazione sul design e su (...) come progettare rispettando valori e professionalità dei professionisti e degli operatori sanitari è di massima importanza. Sono state proposti vari approcci per raggiungere questo obiettivo, come la progettazione partecipata, la progettazione universale, la progettazione inclusiva e la progettazione orientata ai valori. Nonostante i vantaggi di questi approcci più consolidati, nessuno di essi si concentra sulle narrazioni e le metafore sottostanti che guidano e influenzano come l’IA viene percepita e quindi impatta il lavoro dei professionisti. Questo lavoro esamina brevemente un approccio complementare, ovvero l’IA centrata sull’essere umano (HCAI), che propone nuove narrazioni di potenziamento e miglioramento per gli utenti, piuttosto che narrazioni di sostituzione. Se i professionisti spingono per l’adozione di tale approccio e nuove narrazioni, possono aumentare, piuttosto che abdicare, la loro responsabilità sul posto di lavoro e aumentare la loro capacità di fornire cure adeguate. La repetición y la superposición innecesaria de principios éticos similares para el desarrollo de una inteligencia artificial responsable no solo entran en conflicto, sino que esta confusión y ambigüedad pueden llegar, incluso, a resultar peligrosas si los postulados son un mero “lavado de cara” y las verdaderas intenciones se esconden detrás de intereses mezquinos. Esto aplica tanto a particulares, a empresas, como a gobiernos. El proceso de establecer leyes, normas, estándares y mejores prácticas para asegurar que la IA sea benéfica (...) para toda la sociedad es un llamado urgente para un “mejor futuro de la humanidad”. De todo lo anterior, surge este intento por traducir en solo seis principios fundamentales el cúmulo de literatura que hasta ahora se tiene y, posteriormente, defender tres máximas que podrían sintetizar no solo los principios esbozados en este libro, sino los marcos normativos vigentes con aspiraciones universalistas: responsabilidad, transparencia, seguridad, no discriminación, privacidad y sostenibilidad; y como máximas clásicas de la ética: honradez, intencionalidad y conciencia moral. O principal objetivo deste artigo é criticar a leitura de duas peças de Eurípides, Hipólito e Medéia, que nos é oferecida por Terence Irwin, no artigo intitulado “Euripides and Socrates”, de 1983. No final, aponto para a necessidade de um estudo cuidadoso das diferentes formas de irracionalidade encenadas na obra de Eurípides.

En el presente trabajo se utiliza el problema ético de la automatización en transportes y vehículos dotados de inteligencia artificial (IA) para un análisis crítico de las diferentes posiciones éticas y morales clásicas. Debido a la intersección de la IA con los campos de investigación de la bioética, la nomoética y la tecnoética, existe un hilo conductor en sus fundamentos. Además, se juzga necesario para este propósito, así como por rigurosidad, hacer uso de una cantidad mínima de herramientas formales y (...) exponer un proyecto de una teoría ética actualizada, sistémica y materialista, que sobrepase a sus sistemas rivales. Así, se pretende ofrecer las bases para una teoría alterna más fecunda y explicar cómo las posiciones éticas tradicionales pueden ser obsoletas, si no directamente inaplicables, para afrontar la automatización inteligente y problemas morales similares, en la actualidad. La “Conferencia de Asilomar, California sobre IA beneficiosa” fue una conferencia organizada por el Instituto del futuro de la vida (Future of Life Institute) en enero de 2017, donde más de cien expertos e investigadores se reunieron para discutir y formular principios para una IA ética. Los veintitrés principios están divididos en temas o preguntas de investigación (cinco); temas concernientes a la ética y valores (cinco) y, problemas a largo plazo (cinco). En este capítulo se abordan cada uno de los (...) principios, se explicitan y, finalmente, se analiza y discute su viabilidad y vigencia. Se concluye que el movimiento ha recibido tanto aclamaciones como críticas. Mientras que algunos han elogiado los principios como un valioso punto de referencia para los debates sobre la ética de la IA, otros han expresado su preocupación de que carecen de orientación específica sobre cómo aplicarlos en la práctica. Se plantea la pregunta de si estos principios son suficientes para abordar los complejos retos éticos que surgen con la inteligencia artificial. La respuesta es que, aunque podrían no ser suficientes por sí solos, son necesarios para iniciar y dar forma a este debate. (shrink)

La “Recomendación sobre la ética de la inteligencia artificial” es un documento elaborado por el Grupo especial de expertos (GEE) y adoptado por la UNESCO en noviembre de 2021. El documento presta especial atención a las implicaciones éticas de los sistemas de IA en relación con la cultura, la educación, la ciencia, la información y la comunicación. El documento pretende orientar a los responsables políticos y a las partes interesadas sobre cómo garantizar que la IA se desarrolle y utilice de (...) forma ética. Se subraya aquí su visión de futuro y el desafortunado hecho de que no todos los países son parte del acuerdo internacional y, por tanto, no se sienten obligados a seguir estas directrices, por no ser incluidos o autoexcluirse. Se concluye que sienta las bases para futuros instrumentos normativos que puedan contribuir a su aplicación y que se den los pasos necesarios para garantizar que la ética se lleve a la práctica. Se espera que el instrumento ayude a las naciones y a las empresas a mejorar sus marcos reglamentarios éticos basándose en una visión universalista. (shrink)

La “Recomendación del Consejo de la OCDE sobre inteligencia artificial” es un conjunto de directrices y principios para el desarrollo y despliegue de sistemas de IA alineados con los valores y derechos humanos, la transparencia y la rendición de cuentas. Fue adoptada por el Consejo de la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económicos (OCDE) en mayo de 2019 e incluye cinco principios clave para la gobernanza de la IA. Ésta debe beneficiar a las personas y al planeta impul- (...) sando el crecimiento inclusivo, el desarrollo sostenible y el bienestar; los sistemas de IA deben respetar el estado de derecho, los derechos humanos, los valores democráticos y la diversidad; también deben ser transparentes para garantizar que las personas comprendan los resultados y puedan cuestionarlos; los sistemas deben ser sólidos, seguros y protegidos durante todo su ciclo de vida; y las partes interesadas deben colaborar para maximizar los beneficios de la IA y minimizar sus riesgos. Se concluye aquí que los Principios de IA de la OCDE han sido criticados por no ser vinculantes y carecer de un mecanismo formal de aplicación. Tampoco abordan preocupaciones sociales amplias, como el desplazamiento de puestos de trabajo y la concentración de poder en unas pocas empresas. Además, es posible que los principios no tengan en cuenta los retos a los que se enfrentan los países en desarrollo y estén demasiado centrados en los intereses de las economías avanzadas. Sin embargo, la Recomendación de la OCDE establece una serie de principios ampliamente aceptados y respaldados tanto por los miembros, como por los que no lo son. Entre los valores figuran la transparencia, la solidez, la seguridad, la responsabilidad, la justicia, la equidad y la determinación humana. Este conjunto compartido de principios proporciona una base sólida para el desarrollo responsable de la IA, más allá de las fronteras de los “países ricos”. (shrink)

¿Puede la inteligencia artificial (IA) hacernos más morales o ayudarnos a tomar decisiones más éticas? El libro Más (que) humanos. Biotecnología, inteligencia artificial y ética de la mejora, editado por Francisco Lara y Julian Savulescu (2021), puede inspirarnos filosóficamente sobre este debate contemporáneo. En esta nota crítica, contextualizo la aportación general del volumen y analizo los dos últimos capítulos de Monasterio-Astobiza y de Lara y Deckers, quienes argumentan a favor del uso de la IA para hacernos mejores agentes morales. RESUMO A inseminação artificial (IA) é a biotecnologia mais empregada com vantagens superiores em relação a utilização da monta natural, cuja eficácia se dá na larga escala de reprodução entre os bovinos. Associando essa biotécnica com hormônios pode-se estabelecer manipulações do sistema reprodutivo da fêmea, levando a manejos de inúmeras cabeças de gado para inseminar a um tempo fixo. Portanto, foram realizados 5 protocolos de IATF, tendo 2 categorias de animais: nulíparas e multíparas. No protocolo 1 foram submetidas 81 multíparas, (...) resultando em 47 animais prenhes; No protocolo 2 foram protocoladas 103 animais multíparas, no qual resultou em 51 prenhes; já o protocolo 5 foram submetidas 77 animais multíparas, no qual resultou em 36 animais prenhes. Cada serviço realizado foi matematicamente calculado, sendo o ponto de partida o escore corporal, bem estar animal e a técnica bem exercida. Desta forma obteve bons resultados na (IATF) , no qual destaca-se o percentual : o protocolo 1 obteve 58,02%, o protocolo 2 obteve 49,51% na taxa de prenhez, No protocolo 3 obteve 55,67% na taxa de prenhez, o protocolo 4 obteve 53,33% de prenhes, já o protocolo 5 resultou em 46,75% de prenhez. O uso das biotecnologias da reprodução, realizadas em bovinos de corte, obteve resultado dentro do descrito pela literatura consultada. A boa taxa de prenhes apresentada na IATF deveu-se ao bom controle hormonal do ciclo estral e da qualidade do sêmen utilizado. A taxa de prenhez dos animais que foram submetidos à monta natural foi baixa pelo fato de que os reprodutores não conseguiram cobrir todas as fêmeas. ABSTRACT The artificial insemination (AI) is the most used biotechnology with superior advantages in relation to the use of natural mounting, whose effectiveness is given in the large scale of reproduction among cattle. Associating this biotechnique with hormones it is possible to establish manipulations of the reproductive system of the female, leading to managements of numerous heads of cattle to inseminate at a fixed time. Therefore, 5 IATF protocols were performed, having 2 categories of animals: nulliparous and multiparous. In protocol 1, 81 multiparous animals were submitted, resulting in 47 pregnant animals; in protocol 2, 103 multiparous animals were submitted, resulting in 51 pregnancies; and in protocol 5, 77 multiparous animals were submitted, resulting in 36 pregnant animals. Each service performed was mathematically calculated, with the starting point being the body score, animal welfare and the well exercised technique. Thus obtained good results in the (IATF), which highlights the percentage: protocol 1 obtained 58.02%, protocol 2 obtained 49.51% in pregnancy rate, in protocol 3 obtained 55.67% in pregnancy rate, protocol 4 obtained 53.33% pregnant, and protocol 5 resulted in 46.75% pregnant. The use of the reproduction biotechnologies, performed in beef cattle, obtained results within the described by the consulted literature. The good pregnancy rate presented in the IATF was due to the good hormonal control of the estrous cycle and the quality of the semen used. The pregnancy rate of animals that were subjected to natural mating was low due to the fact that the sires could not cover all the females. Keywords: Hormones. Cattle Pregnancy Rate. La Inteligencia Artificial (IA) ha supuesto un gran avance para la humanidad en diversos campos; sin embargo, eso no implica que su actividad esté exenta de reflexión ética. La humanidad está enfrentado, y va a enfrentar en el futuro, numerosos desafíos que van a obligar a elaborar nuevas ideas para poder vivir a la altura de los tiempos. Entre esos desafíos encontramos el laboral y económico, el de mejoramiento humano, el militar y de seguridad y el político y jurídico, entre (...) otros. Así pues, una vez considerados los desafíos en el terreno de la IA, una referencia ética que puede servir para enfrentar dichos desafíos, puede ser el principio de responsabilidad de Hans Jonas. La lectura de este aporte ético puede facilitarnos unas primeras coordenadas para la orientación en medio de un horizonte de posibilidades nuevo para la humanidad y, adicionalmente, servir como punto de partida en el compromiso que deben asumir los diferentes saberes implicados en este novedoso campo. In Truth and Objectivity, Crispin Wright argues that because truth is a distinctively normative property, it cannot be as metaphysically insubstantive as deflationists claim.1 This argument has been taken, together with the scope problem,2 as one of the main motivations for alethic pluralism.3 We offer a reconstruction of Wright’s Inflationary Argument (henceforth IA) aimed at highlighting what are the steps required to establish its inflationary conclusion. We argue that if a certain metaphysical and epistemological view of a given subject matter (...) is accepted, a local counterexample to IA can be constructed. We focus on the domain of basic taste and we develop two variants of a subjectivist and relativist metaphysics and epistemology that seems palatable in that domain. Although we undertake no commitment to this being the right metaphysical cum epistemological package for basic taste, we contend that if the metaphysics and the epistemology of basic taste are understood along these lines, they call for a truth property whose nature is not distinctively normative—contra what IA predicts. This result shows that the success of IA requires certain substantial metaphysical and epistemological principles and that, consequently, a proper assessment of IA cannot avoid taking a stance on the metaphysics and the epistemology of the domain where it is claimed to be successful. Although we conjecture that IA might succeed in other domains, in this paper we don’t take a stand on this issue. We conclude by briefly discussing the significance of this result for the debate on alethic pluralism. (shrink)

The indirect argument (IA) for incompatibilism is based on the principle that an action to which there is no alternative is unfree, which we shall call ‘PA’. According to PA, to freely perform an action A, it must not be the case that one has ‘no choice’ but to perform A. The libertarian and hard determinist advocates of PA must deny that free will would exist in a deterministic world, since no agent in such a world would perform an action (...) to which there were alternatives: an action there being the necessary consequence of preceding events and the laws of nature, it would not be possible for a person to perform actions besides those he actually performs. Determinism is seen here as “indirectly” ruling out free will by making the satisfaction of a necessary condition of free agency impossible, the former requiring, according to the leading proponent of libertarianism, Robert Kane, the performance of free actions. To have a free will, on his view, is to have committed “self-forming” actions, that is, to have done things to which there were alternatives the doing of which led to the development of the desires, preferences, and beliefs that make up one’s character. -/- The range of phenomena obeying probabilistic laws has yet to be ascertained. Under certain assumptions, both STR and GTR entail an indeterministic mechanics. But, contrary what is often claimed, quanta do not behave indeterministicly: the wave function/probabilistic laws being necessary only insofar as we wish to macroscopicly describe their behavior. It is far less clear, however, that the macro-events involved in human decision making and behavior, such as the releasing of neurotransmitters and the contracting of muscles, occur indeterministically. The ontological status of these events-whether or not they are the necessary effects of prior occurrences-is, of course, what matters in the free will debate. For present purposes, however, this question will be put aside. Instead, I will concentrate on buttressing the existing case against PA, aiming to show that even if deterministic laws hold at the level of macro-phenomena, free will remains a possibility. That is to say, I shall defend the thesis that so-called “Frankfurt cases” demonstrate that alternatives are not required to perform an action that is free in the sense of being something for which its agent is responsible. -/- My defense will be carried out in three stages. First, I must respond to those who maintain that a Frankfurt case is not a counterexample to PA because it is not an example of someone acting without alternatives. Here, I confront the question of how “robust” an alternative must bein order to provide an agent with a way of avoiding praise or blame for the action that she actually commits. Secondly, I must show that an agent may be praiseworthy or blameworthy despite lacking alternatives at the time at which she acts, i.e., an appropriate object of one of a Strawsonian “reactive attitude” sans what I shall call “local” alternatives. At this point, I must attend to David Widerker’s recent critique of the use of Frankfurt cases as counterexamples to PA. Finally, I set for myself what I take to be the most difficult task of a compatibilist: demonstrating that not even an “historical” alternative-the possibility of having chosen a different path in life than the one that one has actually taken-is needed to have a free will. In this connection, it will be incumbent upon me to explain why it would be fair to hold someone accountable for behavior issuing from a self she did not create, dispositions originating from natural conditions she did not establish. That is to say, in denying that a free will entails the ability to transcend oneself, I shall be faced with what Kane calls the “ultimacy” problem: how to explain away the incompatibilist’s intuition that it is senseless to adopt a reactive attitude towards someone incapable of self-transcendence, even if such a reaction is itself unavoidable. By showing that the desire for self-transcendence is itself irrational, I intend to solve this problem. I will, thus, be left defending a version of compatibilism according to which a free will is to be understood as a healthy faculty-the will-being exercised in an environment conducive to self-realization, which is its purpose. In a series of recent papers, Jane Friedman has argued that attitudes like wondering, enquiring, and suspending judgement are question-directed and have the function of moving someone from a position of ignorance to one of knowledge. Call such attitudes interrogative attitudes. Friedman insists that all IAs are governed by the following Ignorance Norm: Necessarily, if one knows Q at t, then one ought not have an IA towards Q at t. One of the primary, if not most critical, difficulties in the design and implementation of autonomous systems is the black-boxed nature of the decision-making structures and logical pathways. How human values are embodied and actualised in situ may ultimately prove to be harmful if not outright recalcitrant. For this reason, the values of stakeholders become of particular significance given the risks posed by opaque structures of intelligent agents (IAs). This paper explores how decision matrix algorithms, via the belief-desire-intention model for (...) autonomous vehicles, can be designed to minimize the risks of opaque architectures. Primarily through an explicit orientation towards designing for the values of explainability and verifiability. In doing so, this research adopts the Value Sensitive Design (VSD) approach as a principled framework for the incorporation of such values within design. VSD is recognized as a potential starting point that offers a systematic way for engineering teams to formally incorporate existing technical solutions within ethical design, while simultaneously remaining pliable to emerging issues and needs. It is concluded that the VSD methodology offers at least a strong enough foundation from which designers can begin to anticipate design needs and formulate salient design flows that can be adapted to the changing ethical landscapes required for utilisation in autonomous vehicles. This three-part paper presents Gordon Pask’s conversation theory (CT) and interaction of actors theory (IA) and outlines ways to apply these cybernetic approaches to designing technologies and scenarios for both formal and informal learning. The first part of the paper covers concepts central to CT and IA, explaining the relationship between conceptual and mechanical operators, and machines mediating informal and formal learning. The second part of the paper applies visual representations of CT and IA to understanding the use of Pask’s (...) course assembly systems (CASTE and THOUGHTSTICKER), created between the late 1960s and the 1980s, and the ThoughtShuffler search interface, created in the 2010s. The third part proposes two pathways for design based on CT and IA: firstly, the potential for designers and observers to reformulate the qualities of tools and learning scenarios to augment human thinking and collective action; and secondly, the possibility to create tools with malleable interfaces that allow users to become intermediaries rather than consumers of knowledge. Many empirically minded philosophers have used neuroscientific data to argue against the multiple realization of cognitive functions in existing biological organisms. I argue that neuroscientists themselves have proposed a biologically based concept of multiple realization as an alternative to interpreting empirical findings in terms of one‐to‐one structure‐function mappings.
